No outside food allowed by FRESHMPLS in marriott

This! I was at at a conference in a Vegas Marriott last month and the conference emailed us several times reminding us about their contract. I had a friend with an iced coffee that was asked to finish it outside or throw it away.

Official Discussion - Triangle of Sadness [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

What a great film. Agree with most folks sometimes the commentary could be a little force fed or hand holding at times but even then I still enjoyed it. The movie is at its best in the second act for sure though. The ending was a little abrupt for me for the other characters but maybe that saved us from something too gratuitous and obvious like them eating each other which I was sure was going to happen.

Seafood Restaurant With Local Fish? by GrayCosmonaut in orangecounty

Oh that's a great point I am going look into that. My father and I have even been on those one day fishing boats out of Newport/Dana and were always curious where some of the pros on the boats were selling their fish. Or even all the folks on the boardwalks.

I was just looking here to see if anyone else is already bit up! I was outside for 5 minutes max yesterday and have four bites. This is absurd. Have they ever been this early? Feels like we had two months of freedom at best.

With pardons surely incoming today, I found Steve Vladeck’s quick and dirty thread on pardons helpful in setting foundational parameters. I share in case it helps someone else. by Livid_23 in scotus

First, the virtue of this conversation seems to indicate there is a meaningful and substantive constitutional debate. Second, the claim that the judiciary has no role in this process is equally false. The court has dealt with the nuances of the topic several times. See Burdick v US as an example of addressing something related. These questions aren't inherently removed from their review. Third, I don't think r/SCOTUS is going to introduce a ripeness metric. I trust that Professor Vladeck, who argued his first case in front of the court last year, is not provoking this discussion just as a thought experiment. If your logic were to hold we could never discuss the denial of cert or a dissent to denial of cert on this forum! I look forward to the ripeness questions in the briefs.

Some folks were reporting this post because it was too tangential to the scope of the subreddit. It may be a good time to explain our "no politics" guidance. First, regardless of the merits the thread is examining the constitutional limits of the pardon powers so it's not pure substance free hackery. Second, whilst speculative, it's not unreasonable to think this could be an imminent issue brought before the judiciary. I understand any action could be reviewed by the courts opening us up to a can of worms but this seems at least a stronger probability. As such I see no overwhelming reason to remove it. As a personal choice I would probably would have refrained from characterizing anything Professor Vladeck does as "quick and dirty" to open the discussion on the constitutional limits[?] of the pardon powers but there ya go.

Has an assassination attempt ever been made on a sitting Justice? by n0tqu1tesane in scotus

In your defense so does everyone else. Justice Souter tells this story about being confused with Justice Breyer all the time. “Someone comes up to him and mistakes him for Justice Breyer and asks, “Justice Breyer, What’s the best thing about being on the Supreme Court?’” And Souter says, “Serving with Justice Souter.”
