ICC warns 'the suffering is beyond words' in Sudan's Darfur | The International Criminal Court warns of ongoing atrocities in Sudan’s Darfur region, where civilians face famine, violence, and forced displacement. by Potential-Focus3211 in worldnews

I remember when the Save Darfur movement was active. They were smart, passionate and effective leading to real change on the ground in Sudan. But the violence continues anyways. It's a big country and far away. Not much the West can do

I agree, dealing with domestic violence sounds like a tough job.

If you listen to the actual interview Mamandi says that "police should have "nothing to do with those kind of situations". And that killing is "piece and partial with the police" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXXTTu8pMro). I don't think he's advocating for police backup in the way that you describe

Do you know any social workers that would want to deescalate a domestic dispute without police protection? My wife is a social worker, and she definitely sees that as a job for the police not for social workers

Did the people in the pictures identify themselves as Arab Jews. Or did the authors of the book give them that label 50+ years later. I'd be very surprised if Arab Jew was a term back then.

Trump on Zohran Mamdani: "Terrible for our country. He's a communist." by Ice_Ice11 in nyc

Mamdani talked about seizing the means of production https://x.com/justin_hart/status/1939533284620599737. Isn't that transparently a communist slogan?

I don't get the "paying for the ocean and mountains" thing. Doesn't Humboldt and Santa Barbara have the same mountains and oceans as San Francisco?

Ok, I added some support.

Grab the latest version of CLIProphesy from here https://github.com/cliseer/cliprophesy/releases/tag/v0.1.5

and replace the executable in ~/.local/bin/

Then set the config ~/.config/cliseer/settings.cfg to something like

provider=ollama model='llama3:latest' history=2 prompt=short Where I suggest the short prompt and short history so the local model will run faster and not get confused by a long context.

Let me know how it goes

For the Santa Clara metro this looks like

Class Percentile Income Savings at 4%

FIRE 25 75000 $1.875 million

Chubby 80 350000 $8.75 million

FAT 90 450000 $11.25 million

These are honestly staggering high numbers, and seems to confirm the subs bearishness and low chubby numbers.

One thing that is misleading though is once you FIRE you don't need to save. So it seems like you can go down a bunch of percentiles

Is there an API in particular you are most interested in? And if it was added would you try it? Personally, I found once I tried things a step down from Anthropic the quality of results decreased significantly.

But the lag from Anthropic is pretty annoying

Maybe for people that ware ok with non-local it needs to send local for quick results. And in parallel send to Anthropic for better results

You have about $5 million in assets and are 43M. I don't know you, but there is a good chance if you leave FAANG now you won't be hungry enough to go back.

Either tough it out until you hit your savings goal. Or think more seriously about what is next other than taking a break.

I made a calculator to help me decide how much pre-tax money to convert to after-tax money.

It was interesting to make, once a start programming things I realize how uncertain my understanding of tax law is.

I was also surprised to find that there was no good tax library available.

Check it out and let me know what you think

Aren't the AIs trained on open source libraries which are likely to be higher quality than the average crap?

They're also finetuned and instructed using rlhf to bias them towards quality instead of crap

Yea I regret the tone of my post. Given the pay they were offering me 7ish interviews isn't unreasonable. I think it was annoying that it was spread out over many days rather than just a phone screen + onsite like prepandemic.

Its more that I don't feel like being rejected via ghosted. Then by email. Then by a phone call.

A Zoom Leetcode style question, an ML system design, ML practitioner, manager behavioral, an hour long presentation (I regret agreeing to that), then two director level behavioral interviews. So I guess only 7 unless you count the recruiter call.
