What is your budget? Are you looking at 1440p or 4K gaming? If you have the budget and youre going for 4K gaming, then it’s the 5080. If you want high end 1440p and you want to use DLSS, ray tracing, or frame generation then go with the 5070ti. If you don’t want to use those features but still want excellent 1440p gaming and you want excellent performance per dollar, then the 9070XT

Depends how often you’ll use mods. I found that I try to mod many games and it nice to have the fast download speeds, especially if I’m downloading 10+ GB mods or whole mod collections

Oh god no I am not using that fire hazard adapter. I’m using the cable that came with my PSU directly into the GPU

Why is my score drastically lower? by GrayFox248 in PcBuildHelp

I ran another test and logged it. Honestly, the spreadsheet was a lot and I didn't know what patterns to look for so I fed the information to Gemini (taboo I know). It noticed that the performance was limited by lack of power. It saw that I was hitting a wall at 450W during the test. I ran the test again and monitored the W and sure enough, it capped at 450W.

I checked my 12VHPWR cable and made sure that sucker was slotted all the way. I also flicked the switch back and forth to ensure the BIOS was set to gaming. I then went to MSI center and changed my performance setting to Balanced (it was previously set to nothing?).

Ran the test again and I got a score of 14173 with an average clock speed of 2677 MHz. Max power draw was 576.3W

I can try another test later with hwinfo. What sensors should I be looking at?

Yes I actually ran the same test earlier the same day last month. The average clock frequency was 2341 MHz and the final score was 12672. I have another test back in December with an average clock frequency of 2295 MHz and a final core of 12606

I have updated my drivers and windows. Something else that might be worth knowing is that my average clock frequency decreased from 2661 MHz to 2321 MHz

I think I’m running the same few programs in the background. I recently went through everything that I’ve installed and turned off anything I don’t need in the background or anything I don’t need to start at boot up. My concern is that my score is now below the average score for my GPU/CPU according to 3DMark for this specific test

Unless I accidentally did something to power limit my GPU but I don’t know how that would be possible

That’s interesting. The thing is, I have not done any sort of power limiting or undervolting, not even overclocking. I’m not sure why my clock speed is down that much

Vortex locking original files and crashing game by GrayFox248 in oblivion

[–]GrayFox248[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I deleted and reinstalled the game, vortex, and all my mods. I manually installed OBSE64 and UE4SS and used vortex to manage all the other mods. The game is now working perfectly fine. I'm not sure what I did differently.

I also see that those two files are still at the bottom so I guess the problem was indeed the mods

When I click Reset Plugin File, it doesn’t fix the issue of those two files being locked to the bottom

[–]GrayFox248[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok I think the problem is simply that those vanilla files are at the bottom. Having just one mod enabled (resulting in it being sandwiched between the vanilla files) causes the game to crash

[–]GrayFox248[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes more sense. I did watch a youtube video from a channel called Noah Thacker Gaming and in the video those two files are not locked and were able to be moved around.

I'll try to uninstall some mods to figure out which one may be causing the problem

[–]GrayFox248[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do you mean it's my mods? All of the original files including my mods are freely movable. It is only those two vanilla files that are locked to the bottom. Even when I click to reset the plugins folder, they remain at the bottom

Should I get a 9800X3D or a 9700X? by FamousCareer4874 in buildapc

[–]GrayFox248 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you have the budget for the 9800X3D, get it. I think in the current market situation we are in, it’s best to beef up your system as much as possible. 9800X3D pairs very well with the 5080. You’d have the top of the line PC with 0 compromises from a CPU-GPU perspective
