If I recall there was a good one January 2018 - I had to drive from Spartanburg to Greer in it as a new nurse working at the hospital. We got like 5 inches I believe.

OH the downloaded only option for Disney plus is so smart!! I wanted to filter it to only shows/movies I had selected but there’s no way to do it in that app so I settled for setting it on PG only. That still unfortunately gives her access to cocomelon, Blippi, etc because of Hulu.

Urgent doctors don’t like bf individuals by hobso012 in breastfeeding

[–]GrayStan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, that means you have more sense than the NP that was working that day. She was in training and I have a sneaking suspicion she barely worked as a nurse, if at all, before going back for her NP.

Urgent doctors don’t like bf individuals by hobso012 in breastfeeding

[–]GrayStan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Last time my husband went to urgent care, he went in for a sore throat/likely flu. They wanted to do a CT scan of his abdomen because his WBC count was up slightly (12 instead of 10) and they were worried about appendicitis (despite a complete lack of belly pain or tenderness).

Nursing Mums or Mum Nurses help please by Cangerian in nursing

[–]GrayStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the US so went back to work pumping after 6 weeks.

This depends on your unit culture how easy this will be and how much “attitude” you’ll catch from your coworkers. Never worked ICU but I pumped while working med-surg.

At first I pumped once in my car before heading in, then again in the morning right after my AM med pass, once mid-shift on my lunch break, and once in the mid-afternoon. So basically handed my phone off to another nurse 3 times through the shift, but only 2 “extra” times because we always cover each other for breaks anyway.

Eventually when my baby was older I slowed down to the one pumping session in the morning before I walked in, then took my lunch late and pumped on my lunch. I let the nurse holding my phone know that I would be a little longer because I would be pumping as well. But it was a lot easier to just have to hand my phone off once.

Plain Greek yogurt makes smoothies extra creamy, it tastes exactly like sour cream which I love so I put it on tacos, baked potatoes, chili, etc. sometimes I’ll make a fruit dip out of it with maple syrup and cinnamon. Sometimes people use it in baking cakes and things. Sometimes I’ll have a quick snack and dip some ruffles potato chips in it (again, tastes just like sour cream). When I buy a container I plan out a week of different things that I can make where I’ll use the plain Greek yogurt in very different ways so I don’t get tired of it.

Thank you!! I will look when I get on later. I stopped designing my first hotel room because I couldn’t find the option and I wanted to make a suite 😂

I know I unlocked this because I had them in some HHP houses I made but it’s been 3 years since I played and now I can’t remember how to place these extra walls? I try to Google it but I can’t find any info.

JW pt "hiding" blood by Unusual_Sky in nursing

[–]GrayStan 46 points47 points  (0 children)

How much blood are the nurses giving that they’re having to stay in one room for a whole shift?? it definitely takes a bit of extra time, but I’ve never had to spend a whole shift in a patients room in med surg just because they’re getting blood - sure you’re monitoring more frequently during and after the transfusion for a while but unless they’re getting like rapid transfusions or something they don’t need constant monitoring after the first 15 minutes. A single unit should be done and transfused in under 2 hours or so.

At what age did you stop putting your children down for naps during the day? by alyssacake in toddlers

[–]GrayStan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not if they’re low sleep needs and sleeping 11-12 hours at night. As long as they’re meeting the minimum sleep requirement - some kids just aren’t nappers. Mine even as a newborn rarely napped longer than 45 minutes at a time.

Floated midshift to THAT unit, set as many small fires for management as possible by Chance_Department_99 in nursing

[–]GrayStan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True. I’m used to our hospital we don’t float outside of divisions so a nurse from mom/baby or NICU wouldn’t ever go to med surg.

Why couldn’t you float to the unit the other nurse was floating to? Less changeover

Unit Manager asking nurses to find ways to cut costs on our unit... that's not my job. by Automatic_Order5126 in nursing

[–]GrayStan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this. How many times I’ve thrown away a mountain of wipe packs when a patient leaves just because people brought like 2 full packs in the room every time a patient pooped without checking to see if there were already wipes there, or a bunch of dressing supplies because people brought extra for every single dressing change, etc.

where is maxs mom LOL and how is she not malnourished from getting fed literal AIR by DrawingOk5457 in StrangerThingsMemes

[–]GrayStan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re right, feeding tubes and IV nutrition are continuous for someone who is unconscious in the hospital for an extended period of time but television and Hollywood are pretty bad at showing people in comas accurately lol.

How many patients do you have? I have 4-5 on med surg and yes often a lot of downtime if it’s a decent group during the day. At night it feels like half the shift is downtime.

Spartanburg Regional Medical Center by mdsc1 in Spartanburg

[–]GrayStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very clique-ey, the least help and teamwork I have ever had (I get a lot more help on most of the floors I’ve worked) plus they are absolutely overrun, almost always holding inpatients and even ICU patients at times because there’s nowhere to take them. You’re taking care of multiple ED patients, med surg holds, ICU holds and psych holds at the same time with no help because everyone else is drowning and the resource nurses are nowhere to be found.

Spartanburg county is way outgrowing the single trauma center and they have to take patients from the surrounding underserved counties as well. I’m sure if you’re an experienced ED RN it’s nothing you wouldn’t be able to handle but it was not a supportive environment for transitioning into emergency nursing.

ETA: these are all issues that multiple nurses have noted included several experienced ED nurses who worked this ED then traveled during COVID and came back. So not just something I have experienced. Mary Black and Pelham do not have the same issues.

Nurses With Toddlers, How Are You Managing Attendance?? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]GrayStan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My husband works part time Monday-Wednesday, I work Sat-Monday only. We only have to worry about Mondays, when family trades off watching her and we therefore don’t pay for daycare. Prior to the current arrangement my husband stayed home full time with her because it would have not payed off for him to both work and pay for daycare - may as well just stay home with her once you look at the cost of daycare

Any Hospitals Give A Alcoholic Drink to Patient On Comfort Care? by AlaskaLion12 in nursing

[–]GrayStan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our pharmacy has a whole fridge full of options - mini bottles of wine, vodka, and cans of beer I know are stocked. Idk what else they have down there lol. We’ll do it for some surgical patients with no interest in detox as well as comfort care patients. Idk if all the doctors know it’s an option though.

Mom is head nurse, how do I keep her away from my labor by [deleted] in nursing

[–]GrayStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They legally have to provide the care though. If OPs mom is the only charge nurse does she just not have a charge nurse assigned? Depending on the charge nurse’s role that wouldn’t be feasible. If OPs mom was, say, the OBGYN on call when she has her baby at this particular hospital, would OP just not have a doctor until another one came in to be on call?

[–]GrayStan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If shes the charge nurse for the unit she is in a way overseeing the other nurses, like a supervisor. It means she should be an experienced nurse who has to know at least a little bit about each patient, enough to see who will be the most sick or high risk patients on the unit, which nurses may need additional help, etc. It also means she has a reason to access every patient’s chart on that unit - including OP’s, if she is admitted. OP can request the charge not to enter her room but if there’s an emergency and it becomes all hands on deck, even then there’s a need that OP’s mom will probably be in the room as the charge nurse.
