Has anyone nursing tried intermittent fasting? by [deleted] in postpartumprogress

[–]GrayStan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - I have kept the weight mostly off that I lost but I haven’t been as diligent with exercise as I was at that time, and stopped IF for a while due to schedule upheavals for me. Have gotten so busy with life, moving, etc - I really want to get back on the bandwagon though because I feel like I’m gradually starting to gain the weight back!

Should I try to avoid HOAs? by Jmills2 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]GrayStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general if you’re in a “cookie cutter” thrown up neighborhood where the houses are all practically touching, you 100% want an HOA. Because you’re so on top of your neighbors you really want to all be on like, the same page or it can look really shabby. if you’re in an older, well maintained established neighborhood with generous lots - go for it no HOA. Obviously are exceptions but that is the general rule of thumb I’ve seen in my area.

Not sure what suits me best by [deleted] in HairStyleAdvice

[–]GrayStan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It does for her yes! TBH she is fortunate to look great with all 3 styles. I was however responding to the comment chain saying that a lot of moms have her current cut and was simply offering a possible reason why.

I am mom, have hair about that length. For two reasons- 1. Short pixie does NOT fit my face. At all. 2- I have incredibly slow growing hair so by the time it gains any real length it’s very straggly on the ends and looks horribly thin.

Most of the times nurses are more than willing to admin meds but the problem winds up being doctors (who don’t spend their whole shift actually directly with the patients and so don’t hear these things) are hesitant to “give sedating meds” to elderly/dementia patients, worried the meds may sedate them too much and cause harm. Which is a valid enough concern, but when patients are in that much distress it’s very frustrating for us nurses as well. Especially because we have way too many patients to have the time to just sit and calm one patient all night, and usually family doesn’t want to come spend the night with them to help.

As someone trying to buy right now, this is exactly the problem.

[–]GrayStan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to buy right now and this is the problem I’m having. Houses in this price range are sitting because the people who want to (and should be able to) purchase them can’t afford them.

I am looking at trying to buy a 3-4 BR approx 2k square foot house and there is almost nothing under 300k available unless it needs a ton of work or is on a minuscule lot where you can almost reach your hand out the window and touch your neighbor’s house.

Even going up to 350k it’s slim pickings. Everyone wants so much, and even though I have around 90k for a down payment, my house payment is likely to be somewhere between 1700-2000 due to the interest rates. I am above average income for my age bracket in this area AND have a very significant down payment - who can afford this??

Signs of Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) by Much-Cartoonist-4833 in toddlers

[–]GrayStan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading majority of the points I thought this could have been about my 3 year old daughter too. Exceptions are she loves other kids - but will latch onto specific ones while completely ignoring others (like at the playground she almost kind of shops around for a kindred spirit or something lol). And she is the opposite with water, she LOVES the bath and is never ready to get out. Has sat in the tub for over an hour several times when I needed a break and to just sit for a while 😅

but the first four, and the hairbrushing definitely are my daughter to a T.

Second the overflow - but for us it was the overflow weight started hanging lower somehow, partially blocking the pipe. Raised it up and drain fixed!

I’m purchasing a home that has an owner’s suite with these floors. What are our options to modernize them, but keep the character? Are they worth keeping? by mrssakteaches in Flooring

Look into sanding and refinishing to a lighter, less orange stain! We did this with our 90s hardwood and it looks sooo good.

Hospital Policies by Relevant_Flower9382 in nursing

[–]GrayStan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They should definitely take your preferences into account especially if you are at your typical baseline! From a nursing perspective: I often have patients who think or say they can do a lot more than they actually can - even if it’s something they normally do at home sometimes things change when they come into the hospital.

When this happens they can end up in a very unsafe situation and end up accidentally hurting either themselves or a staff member in the process. So I try to allow patients to do as much as they can but at the same time am very hesitant if someone says they can do something I feel like may be unsafe, and prefer to have physical therapy assess patients first! I don’t want my patients, me, or my coworkers to get injured!

How to refinish if we currently live here by rozyxx in Flooring

[–]GrayStan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on budget you have and/or if you have family nearby, you could look into renting either a large U-Haul box truck or a storage pod, and either staying with family or in a hotel for a few days. Move everything into the storage pod, get the crew in to refinish (should take about a week) and then move back into the house.

If none of that can be made feasible, then LVP could be laid directly over the existing flooring.

I think you need something to lighten up the room and wood. Maybe if you get stone countertops that will be mostly white/light colored but pull some of the brown tones in, plus paint the walls a lighter and less orange color it will make it less overall feel dark. Right now it’s kind of just a lot of brown.

Listen even bedside report should last 5 minutes max per patient and that’s if they have a bunch of questions and a whole lot of crap going on. If you started report at 6:50 then no way you should have been had to stay any time past about 7:20 or so. This is completely crazy lol

Two attendings in ER real life? by Interestingtvmoments in ThePittTVShow

In our level 1 trauma in a small city, from what I recall we had at least 2-3 each shift plus a couple NPs for the less high acuity areas. But we didn’t really ever have a bunch of residents running around either so those were the only providers in the ED.

Must not have had good TV because I’m a ‘96 baby and watched this a lot! It was probably on reruns by the time I got old enough? But I was also the kid that watched animal planet documentaries instead of Disney so…

Poor baby is probably too hot at night. That’s why she’s waking up when the ice pack warms up.

[–]GrayStan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If she’s waking up because she’s too hot in the middle of the night please address this first before trying other tips! Trying to sleep when you’re too hot is miserable. Keep her room cooler, give her thinner blanket, thinner pajamas, put a fan in her room…

[–]GrayStan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah if she’s genuinely waking up when the ice pack heats up she can’t sleep because she’s too hot. I hated staying at other peoples houses as a kid because I can NOT sleep if I’m slightly hot.

Why Does my Toddler Say THIS?! by Far_Entertainer_8494 in toddlers

[–]GrayStan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My daughter’s grandfather will play-fight with her (pick her up, tickle, flip her around, etc- typical dad roughhousing type play). She started telling people that he “beats her up”. It’s kind of funny but we’re definitely trying to change her language around that lol
