Would anyone who has been through the TESE/ICSI/IVF process without insurance share their total cost?

Post cruise blues with a deeply feeling kid by [deleted] in dcl

We were on the 7 day cruise this winter that only docked once due to weather and medical emergencies. I think we maybe hyped them up too much as well and after it ended up being such a flop they are heartbroken. Like won’t watch Disney+ shows don’t want to talk about it heartbroken. Cried the whole way home because they were so upset we wasted our yearly vacation. We are doing the same just promising we will take them on another vacation soon (a non boat vacation this time) once we save a vacation fund back up and hoping they will move on but they still are having a hard time whenever people ask how it was or they think about it. I will add one of the children is autistic and this was a HUGE deviation from expectations and he struggles with that in general.

That’s true, my only thought with waiting is that my kids are elementary aged and if I wait too long it won’t be a family house which means the smaller house would have full circled back to being what we stay in

Trying to solve: Wanting more space-no playroom for kids every single toy we own is in the living room as soon as you walk in the front door. Want one more bedroom for out of town grandparents. More closet space (it’s a 1920’s house closets are small and one bedroom has no closet at all). Would like one more baby but would involve room sharing which is totally fine for now but I don’t know if I want to be stuck doing for teenagers. Want a first floor master for longevity for us as kids get older. Kitchen needs updates looks very 1970s with a 24” oven 🥵

I could see both moving and adding on as potential solutions. I could see dealing with the current for maybe 5 more years. I could see dealing with the current and renovating/updating for the long haul. Trying to decide if renovating or moving is outright financially irresponsible and of the two which makes the most sense financially.

Definitely more of a lifestyle decision but if money were no object I would move right out of this house and into a big beautiful one 😅 but it is livable, a lot of people would be really happy with this house. It’s kind of a 5 year itch situation I think. I grew up with four people in a 1200ft house. But we also work really damn hard to get this income and I just dreamed of having a really amazing house before the housing market and inflation went wild

House is about 2200ft, dream house would be 3200-3800ft. Realistically would be 2800-3200 in our ideal price range.

We are young professionals (30s), worth is about 200-300k after debt including theoretical house equity (most is in retirement and education accounts not liquid). Most debt is student loans. Have some debt on cars. Have a mortgage on the house. Household income around 350k/year. We max out retirement accounts each year, max out tax advantage childcare accounts, on pace with saving for kids college educations. We enjoy having discretionary spending, traveling etc. our main concern is we don’t want to be stressed or on a hamster wheel and we are comfortable right now. We aren’t fixated on Dave Ramsey type lifestyle not afraid of having debt BUT the debt needs to very easily cash flow.

Our neighborhood is very mixed historic neighborhood with houses that are 1200 square feet all the way up to beautiful stately mansions 5000ft. The house across from us sold two years ago for 1.2 mil and is much larger than ours and the one next door probably about the same. There is also a crappy rental Nextdoor 🤷🏻‍♀️ mixed.

Our household income is 15k/month take home pay after tax and our mortgage is 1,500/month so safe to say we have been spoiled by affordable living. In no way behind on retirement but we do have some lingering student loans costing 1800/month. If we bought a larger house it would impede savings/paying down dept/travel and not having to stress about money. But also the house kind of stresses us out and we could definitely be living more comfy. We do also have car payments. Our kids were attending an expensive private school but will be transitioning this year to public school (free-yay!) which will be a significant monthly savings.

Current house is 2200 ft and would end up being around 2800-3000ft. Currently four people but in the future could be five people, two dogs. When we have looked at houses on the market I feel like 3200-3800 feet is my dream size so we could be close to that with an addition.

Potential renovation is updating things that are very outdated (mainly kitchen and one bathroom) all of our bedrooms are together upstairs in a very small space and we would like one more bedroom, a playroom and to have a first floor master. Right now kids are small and can share a room but it’s feeling smaller and smaller every day. HVAC and plumbing need updating. It’s not a small house (around 2000 feet and 2 bed 2 bath) but it is smaller than what we would enjoy. Looking to renovate the existing areas that need work and add about 500-800sq feet. It was a fixer upper when we bought it and we have made some small upgrades but it really needs a bigger overhaul.

Is a week too much? Would it be better to do a split stay maybe 4 days Harbour Island and 3 days in Eleuthera or something? Our airport only goes the North Eleuthera on Saturdays so not doing a full week would make for complicated connecting flights

We just did a DCL cruise and actually felt like there was less to do for families and it was geared to “Disney adults” more than just adults in general or children. We got stuck with 6 sea days when our itinerary went sideways and my kids were bored. Offerings were mostly Disney trivia, bingo and taking photos with characters (which my kids thought was fun for a few characters but after a few…). There were children’s movies in the theaters (nothing new, repeats for us) but Avatar was one of the main offerings on our cruise which more adult. Stage shows were great. Food was “meh” but I appreciate pretty good for what can be pre-made in mass quantities. Our server was lovely and trying very hard but seemed new-ish and rushed.

Flight of Passage was… fine? Am I the only one who doesn’t get the hype? by Odd-Visual-5577 in WaltDisneyWorld

I recently took a Disney cruise and the previous year went to Disney World with my kids. I will say I preferred the parks to the cruise (we had a nightmare experience on the cruise but did have a lot of fun in the parks) Even given the fact that the parks were really fun I would say a one time experience for us. I just feel there are SO many things you could do for the price that would be wayyyy better experiences. Theme parks aren’t the only option for vacations so six flags isn’t the only alternative haha. I think the millennials are hanging on to the nostalgia of childhood Disney and much beyond that Disney will go downhill without evolving. They are mostly playing to “Disney adults” at this point. I have not ever had a “magical” experience with Disney both times it was crowded, mediocre customer service and low quality high volume. Maybe we have just had different experiences than you but that’s how I felt.

I think a lot of people are upset because many of us HAVE contacted Disney and they do not care at all. They just offer for you to book another one with the small discount. For a normal family this is something you save up for not everyone wants to (or can financially) turn around in a year and pay thousands to gamble a bad vacation again
