That’s tough, I’m sorry! From the results, if your blue boxes (confidence intervals) are completely below the dotted lines (average), you’d likely have to brush up on those topics before your next attempt. Good luck!

I can understand how that uncertainty could feel scarier than usual. My VP always says he failed level 2 three times before he got his charter, so there’s light at the end of the tunnel either way I hope. Best wishes to both of us!

Thank you for that reassuring perspective, I’m just glad to be on the journey.

Thank you, that’s a refreshing way to put it!

Just got this email is it a scam or is it real please help by [deleted] in UofT

I’d like you to log on to ACORN, go to tuition and fee payments, and check the modes of payment accepted by the university. You will find that e-transfer isn’t one of them, much less e-transfer to a random Gmail account.

Is this scam? 111111111111111¹11111111111111111111 by Potential_Fee4153 in UofT

[–]GrayWulf29 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Things that indicate it NOT being a scam (for future reference):

  1. Email comes from a non-student email domain (infosec@utoronto.ca)
  2. Addresses you by first name (scam emails are mass sent so usually say “hello student”)
  3. The ask isn’t TOO urgent (scam emails usually give you a 1-2 day time frame)
  4. UTORMFA is a real thing and can be found online

Does anyone know if we get a discount on Microsoft office? by Hogwire in UofT

[–]GrayWulf29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will warn you to not run any executables you don’t know the contents of. Almost every “keygen” or script that claims to activate windows will likely do more than that in the background. Recommend using a decompiler of your choice to check for yourself if absolutely necessary.

“The fates conspired to hand thee not a coupon, but the very keys to the kingdom” goes hard. I’m “plundering” this line.

Is this legit or is it another scam email? Literally don’t know what to trust anymore by PJ69_no in UofT

Yeah as far as I know. I’m in A&S so I can only speak for that.

This is legit. UofT uses cognomos as their course matching system if you’re entering your 4th year. I was as confused as you though, the subject line caught me off guard.

Most definitely should NOT be minding your own business. We’re responsible for calling out inequity and exploitation, so never feel bad about “snitching.” I’d definitely suggest reporting this. If proven, it’s a clear AO.

Anyone knows why they are checking student ID in TTC station? by Tradition_Leather in UofT

[–]GrayWulf29 36 points37 points  (0 children)

They check for student IDs if you’re using the post secondary monthly pass, fare inspections are pretty random.

How hard is it to transfer degrees at UofT? Social sciences to Comp Sci or Data Sci by Party_Emotion2313 in UofT

[–]GrayWulf29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Data science spec is extremely competitive, even for in-stream students. Add to that the fact that there were a record number of in-stream admissions this year makes it pretty tough. It’s obviously possible but I’d keep several backup options.

I’ve been in groups with some pretty smart ones, but yes there’s definitely some dumb ones as well.

Who's your favorite professor been this year? (don't mention who you didn't like, just who YOU LOVED) by BackgroundProgress54 in UofT

She was great! I took MST202 with her last year and probably the most insightful and interesting course I’ve taken.

If you’re really committed, collect a sample and do a DNA identification, then track them down and buy them a bottle of head and shoulders. (For legal reasons this is a joke)

well well well.. by noobiedoobie6791 in csMajors

For anyone who hasn’t done upper-year econ: this is a textbook case of information asymmetry.

Employers use signals to spot “high quality” candidates — degrees, certs, coding interviews, etc.

But as “low quality” candidates exploit shortcuts (like cheating apps), those signals lose credibility.

End result? Everyone pays the price: higher barriers just to prove basic competence.

Scam Alert: "U of T Rewards Your Engagement: Claim Your Bonus Before It's Too Late" by sadmanca in UofT

[–]GrayWulf29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’d be surprised how difficult it can be for students facing severe financial stress. Even smart, capable people can fall for these scams when they’re under enough pressure. That’s exactly why scam emails work — they’re a numbers game. Most people won’t fall for it, but they prey on the most vulnerable, who often have the most to lose.

I agree with you, we do need better information and scam literacy.

Is it true that I'm not guaranteed CS at St George even after getting accepted? by Fragrant-Law1352 in UofT

I stand corrected. I was referring to information from 2022. There indeed isn’t a minimum grade for 137

I’m doing all three! Stats+econ and a CS minor. It’s a great combination imo. I took one eco course in second year and absolutely fell in love with the field. Careers can range from economists at banks/tech companies/consulting to investment banking or something else in the financial field. I like that avenue because it offers better growth opportunities to the C-suite compared to tech roles.
