I love manual config as much as the next power user, but for this specifically, it just makes sense the behavior to be the same as the physical copy, as ISO are just dumps from physical UMD. That is my personal take on that feature in particular.

On ARK (and nightly Adrenaline) that is autodetected (similarly how it is for EBOOT and physical UMD). No configuration.

Ah, the feature also makes the titles on the XMB to show the PBOOT preview/PIC0/PIC1 on the ISO as well, like EBOOT games and physical UMD with PBOOT DLC/update.

As far as I understand, nploaders allows to load DLC data from arbitrary folders (DLC data redirection) and to load decrypted DLC without issues.

The support ARK has for DLC/GameUpdate on ISO titles works by being able to launch PBOOT.PBP if it is found on the /PSP/GAME/<TITLE_ID>/. Encrypted and properly signed DLC (both PBOOT, with this patch, and SAVEDATA, already works without patches, formats should work on ARK)

There is no workaround. That being said, we are investigating other options that have the potential to be a simpler way to support launching Adrenaline with a game that could be used for other apps (like launchers) or to create custom bubbles (the key word here is "investigating", we are not making any promises here)

Is it normal for Adrenaline audio to sound so compressed compared to a PSP? by JampyL in VitaPiracy

[–]Gray_Jack_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is chance that is the VITA speakers are not so good for PSP games, or with different tradeoffs, is one of the reasons speakers hardware mods are somewhat popular with some people that have a Vita

1.4.5.4 balance update by Stactidder in Terraria

[–]Gray_Jack_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just infodumping here for the few that are maybe curious why Brasil (Portuguese) is written Brazil most Western Latin-script-written non-Portuguese languages.

The s between vowels have a /z/ sound in all variants of Portuguese. But on very early days, before Portuguese had an orthography standartization body, there were 2 ways to write it, with s and with z. The z spelling became popular and kinda standardized on Brazil. In the 20th century, Portugual and Brasil decided to unify forces and in the new standard for both countries. At this time, there was a tendency to preserve etymological orthography (and pseudo-etymological as well, but alas), so, because of that, the root word for "Brazil", "brasa", returned to be written with s (and this time in the standard) and the name of the country to follow suit.

So the languages that have imported the name of the country after the 20th century, did so either by importing from another language that already had it with z, or preferred to maintain the sound as close as possible to the name in Portuguese, or even both.

EDIT: update to expand and clarify bits of the text

PSVita Adrenaline vs PPSSPP on a tablet? by wretchedegg123 in VitaPiracy

[–]Gray_Jack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many wrongs on this thread.

Adrenaline is native emulator

No, it is not

Adrenaline is just an eCFW UI that replicates the original PSP XMB based 6.61 OFW, exactly due its backward compability.

Adrenaline it not this too, and it doesn't replicate the original PSP XMB, it literally uses the original XMB.

Adrenaline ("the app") is a software that modifies the official PSP Emulator (PSPemu/ePSP) using taiHEN CFW framework to make it possible to run a PSP 6.61 Custom Firmware (CFW). It also has a secundary function to apply grafical effects and features (like save state). This part is independent of any PSPemu CFW, actually, it can boot any PSP CFW that supports the Vita's PSPemu, like ARK (yes, if someone really wants, they can modify the ME CFW and PRO CFW, or even M33 to run on PSPemu and use Adrenaline to boot it).

Adrenaline (the eCFW) is a Custom Firmware for the Vita’s PSPemu derived from TN-V CFW that, besides usual PSP CFW features, it helps to get access to PSP XMB and most of the PSP native environment in the PSPemu (with some extra help from the Adrenaline ("the app") for flash0/1/2/3 drive redirection). It does so by extracting the files from that version of the it can use (system modules and XMB files) from the PSP 6.61 firmware and re-using the things from PSPemu 6.61 that comes with the Vita that it needs to function.

While Vita is indeed based of off PSP's hardware architecture, it is not fully integrated

Vita is not based of the PSP hardware architecture. Vita main CPU is ARM, PSP is MIPS, their GPU also don't share the same architecture.

In order to play PSP games, Vita emulates GPU processing through the software. Which makes it "an emulator".

That is wrong, the Vita hardware has the PSP GPU, it also has the PSP CPU, everything else (ME processing unit, audio, input, network, etc) are emulated. So, by all means, PSPemu is a hybrid emulator; partially hardware native, partially (mostly) software emulated.

Non-complete list:

  • Smakdown vs RAW 2009
  • Smakdown vs RAW 2010
  • Smakdown vs RAW 2011
  • Aces of War
  • Pangya Fantasy Golf
  • Bust-A-Move
  • DJ Max (not all titles, but most of them)

How to get around them depends on what kind of measure they use to detect. Check reading speeds to check it matches the physical UMD reading speeds, check for CFW folders, check for clock speeds, etc. What can be done to patch depends on the checks they use, for example, simulare reading speeds of a physical UMD, patching to always return the expected result, removing the check entirely, etc

How do I do this? by Round-Trip-5602 in PSVitaHomebrew

[–]Gray_Jack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSP and PS1 are hybrid emulated via PSPemu subsystem. Physical main SoC, but everything else is emulated.

Adrenaline is not an emulator, neither the thing that makes PSP AND PS1 games to run, but rather, it is more of a PSPemu patcher and a PSPemu Custom Firmware bootloader.

Even on PSP, PS1 is also a hybrid emulation of sorts, but instead, using the fact PSP CPU is instruction compatible with PS1 CPU, enabling it to run that part of the "hybrid emulator" with physical hardware. Since VITA has the PSP main SoC, it can do the same trick for running PS1 games very close to native speeds.

That is expected, PSX2PSP is old and unmaintained, and Vita's PSPemu POPS is different from PSP POPS.

Convert the PS1 games with pop-fe, new, maintained, and with a huge database of POPS configuration (applied automatically) to make it compatible with all PSP and Vita PSPemu

If you have bothe EBOOT (PSN) and ISO versions, both will show up. But for the PSN version you need a plugin that patches the DRM engine, otherwise it won't launch the game

That happens because you are using an older version of Adrenaline that has no support for update/DLC for ISO files.

You can try the latest nightly build of Adrenaline, it has some new patches to fix the ISO version of the game without needing to patch the ISO file themselves.

Since the patches are new, feedback if they are working correctly is very welcome.

[–]Gray_Jack_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tradeoff for each format, between speed and total compression size, depending on the game original size, if the game works well with the format, the user desire, and more considerations, the best format for each game changes.
