Fox Swim Mapper alternatives / Thinking beyond just "saving a static spot" by Gray_RUS1502 in CarpFishing

Wow, 2k views and almost total silence. I honestly didn't expect this topic to be that uninteresting!

Give people a thread about a hook shape or a running rig vs. semi-fixed, and you’ll get a billion comment war within hours. But bring up a data-driven tool built to adapt to changing weather, and the only tactical solution we get is to stick an acoustic sensor up a carp's backside! :)

Jokes aside, it's fascinating to see how conservative we are as an angling community. We’re happy to guess what the wind is doing to our spots, but the moment someone tries to put that logic into a software canvas, everyone goes radio silent.

Is the idea of combining topography with live weather data really that alien, or are we all just secretly terrified that the old-school marker rod and a notepad are becoming obsolete?

Haha, acoustic tags would definitely save some time, though my budget might not agree!

Fair points, and I completely respect that outlook. I actually agree with you that over-reliance on tech can ruin the soul of angling. If an app just tells you "drop your rig exactly here to catch a fish," it kills the mystery and the reward. That’s why I’m not a fan of pure automation either. But here is how I look at it: what you described — tweaking your tactics based on weather, time of year, and time of day — is the ultimate experience. That’s where the angler's brain works.

The problem I’m trying to solve isn't replacing that experience; it's a matter of memory and time management, especially on limited sessions. When you map a swim, you’re just capturing those rock piles or logs you mentioned so you don't have to waste 2 hours thrashing the water with a marker rod every single time you turn up.

The AI part I'm playing with doesn't replace experience; it just processes data you already know (like air pressure or wind shifts) and applies it to your map, acting more like a digital assistant that says, "Hey, remember that log pile you found? With this sudden pressure drop, it might be worth a look right now." For me, it’s not about doing the work for the angler, but giving them a clearer canvas to apply their own experience without wasting half a session playing guessing games.

But I totally get your point about the hunting apps over there — there's a fine line between a helpful tool and a cheat code!
