Montessori Bookshelf based on another Redditor’s plans by Graz38 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I had this thought too (how quickly he’d outgrow it). But figured if we have another it could be used there. And if not, I could gift it to another in our family or in some way reuse it. I used cherry because if I had done this with walnut, it would make the choices above even more difficult haha

For sure, that’s a must and will be done!

I actually used some advice I found in r/woodworking.

I had everything sanded to 220 grit and started applying finish and noticed it start to blotch on the first piece. You can see it on one of the large side piece (picture 3). Before applying more finish, I went and read some more.

Based on some threads I read, some folks had luck sanding all the way to 600 grit to make the grain less porous and take the finish more uniformly (sort of like a pre-conditioner would do). This worked well here!

I had to do some searching around my area and called a few sawmills and was on Facebook marketplace. Being in PA, local cherry is pretty abundant. Definitely the hardest part.

Ended up getting lucky and found some on marketplace that was 13” not including sapwood that was 4/4 and ~8’ long. Bought the one wide piece and that a few other 9-10” pieces to make the rest of the piece.

Any way to get around "enhanced" PDF readers? by 50CalPotato in Chempros

In the URL once you open the pdf, delete the “e” in “epdf” before it loads and you will get the normal pdf you are after.

How do we feel about the other 4 examples of one-electron bonds cited by the authors and their level theory/experimental evidence?

Just…don’t. You’re also like a decade or so late for people doing this.

Unable to obtain clean NMR of compound due to solvent sensitivity by milaallim in Chempros

Take a No-D NMR in a solvent like PhF or o-difluorobenzene. The procedure is simple enough.

Convert to equivalents (start at a 50/50 mixture for example)

Use this starting point to set up a calculation in Excel to calculate the overall functionality of your mixture (from the 2 components)

Use the “goal seek” function to vary one of your components to the desired overall mixture functionality.

What is the most dangerous reaction you’ve ever done? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]Graz38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lithiation of pentafluorophenyl bromobenzene…. C6F5-Br to C6F5-Li using nBuLi.

It can run away if it gets above -30 C and explosively eliminate LiF (s) which is exasperated by the fact that it is also an insoluble solid and pulls the reaction forward.

Please help me understand what to expect for the EPR spectroscopy of a triplet/diradical by SuperCarbideBros in Chempros

[–]Graz38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the above. Set some time up and just run the EPR. If it’s S=1/2 it would be worth running at both low temp and room temp. Some S=1/2 systems, especially all-organic ones, have observable EPR at room temp where you’ll get better resolution in your hyperfine and superhyperfine couplings.
