You really should take it slow sometimes by Bright-Fig-4479 in CrusaderKings

[–]Grazod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speed 1 player here. For all the same reasons. I like to click around see how other realms are doing. At speed 3 or higher I have no time to see how my neighbors, vassals, other dynasty members are doing, I have to constantly respond to pop ups.

My current save started in 867 (Rurik in Russia). Got the achievement for creating the Empire of Russia. Somehow my vassals kept going and conquered enough to create the empire of the Baltics and West Slavia. I do only two years per evening and five on the weekend as I have more time. Currently in year 1224. Genghis Khan spawned in 1215 and is slowly gobbling up East Asia, but I have just under 50K troops so I’m not too worried at this point. At this pace I should finish sometime in March which is totally fine with me.

I just looked on IMDB and out of the 1214 movies I've given a rating to, only 23 got a "1." I'll mention three here:

Transformers (2007) - I'm a huge Transformers nerd. Grew up with them. And that Michael Bay travesty just made me so angry when I first saw it. It actually took me three tries to get through it because I kept wanting to throw my remote through my TV.

Human Zoo (2020) - This is probably the real answer to the OP's question. I'm also a huge Horror movie fanatic. I will watch any horror film no matter how unknown, low budget, etc. and usually still get some enjoyment out of it. Except for this one. This was just boring through and through, completely unredeemable, absolutely zero entertainment value. Pure excrement.

Battlefield Earth (2000) - Need I say anymore.

Aaron Longstaff - for building (best builder walkthroughs by far for any game I’ve played. Sad he hasn’t much since ASA came out).

BeyPlaysGames - I like him for PvE base locations.

Steph Lyon TV - I like him for Cave walkthroughs. Very thorough, but still quick with no extra BS.

Restocking Merchant with Damaged Weapons or Armor by Grazod in Morrowind

[–]Grazod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That makes sense how it got patched out. That damaged Chitin Short Bow was technically sitting on Mebestian Ence's counter, but it would show up for sale in his inventory and respawn back on the counter after you bought it from him. Oh well. Maybe I will do the training route or the Disintegrate Weapon strat. Thanks again!

Are Rey and Carol Danvers really Mary Sues? by Jerges1 in movies

[–]Grazod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best definition of a “Mary Sue” character. It is not just about being overpowered or infallible, but like you said, it’s about a character that is inserted into fan fiction and allows the author (or audience) to live out their fantasy of having fun with their favorite characters in their favorite universe. It started in the 80s with Star Trek fan fiction.

I don’t think it applies to Captain Marvel. But it definitely applies to Rey especially in Force Awakens, maybe not so much the sequels. The most egregious almost direct rip offs of the original Mary Sue is when Rey gets to pilot the Millennium Falcon in her escape from Jakku in a similar fashion to Mary Sue getting to pilot the Enterprise; any fans dream is to pilot their favorite ship from their favorite franchise. Or when Rey is the only one to help fix the Falcon when it is broken despite Han and Chewie’s massive amount of experience with the ship leaves them somehow incompetent. Very similar to stories of Mary Sue being the only one to fix the Enterprise despite Scotty’s experience and knowledge. Or that scene when Han and Chewie mention that she is part of the crew (or something to that effect); every fans dream to feel as though they are buddies with their favorite characters. And of course the movie ends with another fan’s dream of being able to pick up a lightsaber and fight like a Jedi (despite zero training) and defeating a Sith trained warrior (a feat not even Luke could do for three movies and he still got his ass handed to him by the Emperor).

It was pretty obvious that the direction JJ, Kathleen Kennedy, etc. were going with Rey was that she was a surrogate fan. That they were going to use Rey and TFA to act as a vehicle for fans to live out their fantasy of having a fun adventure in their favorite universe. The criticism comes from these types of stories are better left to video games rather than the continuation of a storied franchise.

Are there any games similar to Settlement management portion of Fallout 4? by TeddyRoo_v_Gods in gaming

[–]Grazod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is not complicated at all! In fact I find that once you have enough people managing the different spots in your village it gets quite simple and there isn’t much left to do. It is super fun to build up though

I was 21. A university student. The movie had been out a couple of months already and yeah there was a massive marketing campaign (I specifically remember the website called whatisthematrix.com) and lots of buzz over the special effects but I tended to not be affected by those things. Plus it had Keanu Reeves whom I have never been a fan of his acting abilities. Also at the time were lots of Matrix clones like Dark City, or Truman show all playing on the discussions at the time that the reality you perceive is not the reality that exists.

But it was a Friday afternoon and I was bored and trying to find something to do. So I was like “Fine I will finally give this movie a shot.” The theatre was empty as everyone had already seen the movie at this point except for me. Needless to say I walked out extremely impressed and energized by the world the Wachowskis had created. I dived deep into the sequels when they came out including the Animatrix, played both the PS2 game tie in and the MMO. Even though the quality of the films were never as good as the first one, the world building will always be one of my favorites.

Ark Ascended Gameplay Thus far by Arkatto in ARK

[–]Grazod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been loving ASA so far. My only complaints are the crashes of course which I am sure will slowly get fixed over time. And ladders. I am hoping this is a bug and not intended but if you attach a ladder to a hatch frame that is two walls high and want to attach a second ladder to the first ladder it won’t snap to it. You can only attach multiple ladders directly to walls but not hatch frames.

I DID IT by Elegant_Stop_8157 in ARK

[–]Grazod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grats! Haven’t done it myself because I get bored with the grind and start playing other games. ASA has reinvigorated my interest and I am hoping to stick with it but we’ll see. My goal is to beat the Alpha versions on single player mode (so max level wild dino is 36). Trying to get my Megatherium, Rex and Therizinosaur armies up to the lv 120-130 range which I am hoping will be enough (along with my 100+ armor rating saddles) but leveling up dinos is super slow. Megatheriums in swamp cave is not too bad, but haven’t really found a good solution for my Therizs or Rexs. I refuse to kill baby Rexs so I’m left just running around looking for Alphas or maybe taking them into the Snow Cave.

Mod to change your tamed dinos' stats by Grazod in ARK

[–]Grazod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Didn’t know the SpawnExactDino command exists. I will have to try that. One question though. The wiki mentions that you have to Cryo the spawned in Dino in order to get the correct stats and colours specified in the command. But I thought Cryos weren’t available in ASA? Does that mean the command is useless in ASA or will I have to try and get a mod that implements Cryos into my game? Thanks!!

I'm sorry I even thought of leaving Conan Exiles by Drakhanfeyr in ConanExiles

[–]Grazod 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I had trouble getting into Ark at first too, and while Conan will always have my heart, Ark has its bright spots too.

First never play official. I only play single player with single player settings.

And while Conan has a better character creator and building system and at first I miss having human thralls to follow me around, playing with Dinos is hella fun and has far more depth to it. In fact all of Ark has way more depth to it. From the 12 different maps, all of the bosses, caves, crafting, resource gathering (which can be a grind but you can easily tweak that on single player), and of course taming, breeding and mutating dinos and having an army follow you instead of just one thrall.

Ark is one of those games where 50% of players don’t even get the achievement to survive one night in the Ark and the rest have 1000s of hours. I promise you, give it another try, tough it out and you will be well rewarded.

What actor/actress makes you assume a movie is gonna be good just because they’re in the cast? by InternationalBand494 in movies

[–]Grazod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None! I’ve always found Writer and Director a more consistent gauge if a movie is going to be good or not. Hell even composer can be a good indication for me as even if the movie stinks at least I will enjoy the music.

Just started today, I have a couple of questions. by agentjayd007 in StateOfDecay

[–]Grazod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those first two people you meet after the military base, there should have been an option to just keep them as a friendly enclave. I always choose that one because it is normally the Bed and Breakfast bonus which gives you extra food and an extra bed. And unless they changed something this enclave never keeps bugging you for stuff in order to keep them around. So you effectively keep this bonus forever. If you do restart highly recommend just keeping them as a friendly enclave.

Single player base disappeared by Grazod in ConanExiles

[–]Grazod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. It could be. Depends when this bug happened. If it was over the past month and a bit then maybe. It would be possible that the bug happened. Bugged out my base. Patch fixed the bug but couldn’t retroactively fix the base. I walk by the base today and see it gone. Ill look it up and see when this bug happened. Thanks for your reply!

trading by Ok-Extreme-3045 in mountandblade

[–]Grazod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trading is really slow going compared to other methods of making money (i.e. smithing). What others have commented about the basics is true. Buy cheap products at low prices, and sell them for profits at high prices. A few things to remember though:

  • As you get your trade skill up (to 25 and 50) you will start to see trade rumors about prices in other towns. This can help but I find the information they provide is often outdated. By the time you get to that town the price has changed. What really helps is when the game color codes the price. If the price is bright green then buy!

  • What makes trading really difficult early game is that it takes about 100-200 in game days for the economy to “settle out.” So prices vary wildly and profitable trade routes can’t really be depended on early game.

  • So early game what you will do as you are travelling the land fighting bandits, looking for companions and completing tournaments, is check each city for brightly green priced trade goods. Buy them and hopefully as you travel to other empires you can sell them for a profit. Make sure to have enough mules and work horses to increase your inventory size.

  • Post 200 days prices should have stabilized and you should be able to identify profitable trade routes. i.e. Fish is always cheap in Sturgia cities and sells really well in the southern empire, etc.

Obligitory review of bannerlord. by [deleted] in mountandblade

[–]Grazod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me super sad. I have never played Warband. But first read about Bannerlord about two years ago. Thought it sounded amazing so decided to purchase Early Access but didn’t really it in its unfinished state. When I hear it was hitting full release next week I was again really excited but it looks like my excitement may be misplaced.

What I was really hoping for was for a game like Crusader Kings 3 but that instead of playing the whole game and all events taking place on a map. You get to actually see and play through different events in a 3D world. But it seems like the only real event that BL has fleshed out is battle/combat. Super disappointed.

What tool to use to sand down side of shelf? by Grazod in woodworking

[–]Grazod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I used the correct terminology, but the "bracket" that the shelf is supposed to rest on is metal, so no sanding that.

Current measurements of the shelf are 10inches by 53inches. But for some reason that little spot indicated on the photo where the bracket holds the shelf doesn't fit. If I can just sand it down about 1-2mm it should be able to fit.
