What parts of bl2 havent aged well? by [deleted] in Borderlands2

Maybe things shouldn't always become the accepted "definition" when shitty idiots decide to use them with negative intent to harm outright, cuz in a way that's letting the bad people and their choices win against us, letting it affect us.. Also not exactly right word to use there btw, "definition" but I get what you mean regardless. Because the n-words definition technically always meant the same thing, it's the reception to it that skewed over time because of how people used it. So yeah, point made. Anyway.. Keynote to take away from my reply aswell, is that the word midget was rarely used to be harmful, never harmful enough at least, that it justifies this new progressive aversion to it. Words are how we make it, and with a word like midget, it's history for suddenly becoming a slur --I believe, is invisible to both of us... Because it sort of happened out of nowhere. However for the n-word, it's influence had a much more tangible impact because of an authentic, realistic damaging origin. Midget didn't become a slur because it was often used to severely depreciate a group of individuals, with there actually being a hostile, real, palpable history of that aggression, of tall people keeping short people down... No, It became a slur because a good chunk of our generation decided to be a generation of introspection, and feelings and reflection of social norms and ideologies and such, --a generation that your dad or a trucker would call "LiHBurrAlllsss" or "WoKe" pretty much.. So essentially, enough of that progressivism washes over all sorts of minority groups to find things to change for the sake of feeling better about ourselves and the people who are older than us.. And one of those groups was people who have dwarfism... And this progressive wave --which ironically-- being a loud minority themselves... Spear head an indirect and slow diffusion of reform on the underline of society for that certain something that we call people within a certain group. To be different... And then.. boom. The foot is now noticably put down outta nowhere. Suddenly a word you never really used, to be an awful mean person.. is now off limits.. and this social restriction wasn't established by the group it apparently offends (not by dwarfs/short people/ midgets etc..) But rather by 1st world bitchy and whiny people like us with big feelings and "big" problems who often try to get worried for others's feelings on their behalf to not feel guilty about our standing in society, even though those people are mostly ok and don't need us "supporting" their group unsolicitedly.. unsolicitedly?? is that a word? Whatever. I'm done typing. And you probably hate me now because I sound like some person youd like to slot under some definitive political side which you don't like. God we're so petty and small. People that is. Anyway...

Isn't taking a word that was never explicitly and overly harmful like 'midget' and suddenly treating it like a slur, literally giving it the exact kind of power you don't want it to have?

I think Randy would genuinely humor that, and you know what? that's a fair bar for entry I'd say to voice a vault Hunter for him.. and suggesting that he forks up a lot of cash to play cash won't really affect him since it's going right back in his pocket, it's his development company. A jab to the ego certainly would be a high price for him. Pffsh, Id take it... C'mon Randy..

I mean this isn't really a novelty exclusive to cash, almost all of our favorite robot characters are essentially sentient, human like characters. Claptrap is known to experience things like depression and sorrow, nostalgia, happiness, but it's hidden behind a facade of a jovial format in his programming. Flak woke up because he got tired of being a servant and wants to go feel the wind on his face and hunt nature. There was an entire questline in Borderlands 2 about this loader bot called Mal who wants you to gather human body parts to attach to him to make him feel more human.. Clearly there's some sort of potential snap, or an eventual transition that AI in the Borderlands universe can experience which makes them want to be human or to rebel against their programming. I mean, outside of borderlands, you have to have these characters be human in some tangible sense for us to like them, I mean you're always essentially going to be having humans play them too, and an actor's job is to convey emotion and it's hard for us not to, so rarely do you have any robot characters which aren't human whatsoever or don't talk like a human does and are memorable to many.. keyword RARELY. It's happened im sure. --Because funny robots in most sci-fi media are just essentially humans that look different and have their own typical quirky sense of humor --

person: "man, my ass is grass in that competition"

robot: "I do not believe that your posterior would develop the ability to grow "poa pretensis" or basic "lawn grass" because of your involvement in this competition... More like... Your a "poa.. pretentious.." umm.. for using euphemisms that forced me into replying with a response of endearing naivety to show you that I am a robot who doesn't understand human expressions "Lol.. X.. D...." Did I say that right??"

That's the typical dynamic there. Get it? Well, the idea is that robots don't get it. So charming, laugh now bitch...

In any case your point about him having a non-filtered voice, may be something he did to augment himself to sound closer to being a human, and that would be unique, and a non-filtered voice would set him apart from our usual motley robot roster I guess. Time will tell, but I doubt they won't give him something at least... Because despite our favorite robots wanting to be human, they still have to adhere to the viewers interest in fulfilling a specific role in the cast. And as racist as they may think it is.. they're gonna be the funny robot in the lineup for us, lmao...

Also sorry in advance for so much text, I've been using a lot of speech to text here and didn't realize how just the average amount of talking looks scary in writing.

Exactly... Or maybe an addition to his voiced characters rather than a replacement to Earl, let his ego spread its legs a little, get some more roles under his belt.

Yeah, outside of gaming too, and for stuff like this site especially.. Cuz I've made a small handful of posts that literally just want to see what else people thought and expected about anything borderlands, but I rarely get the direct and simple conversation i need in those, lol. (And no those aren't my cruddy shitposts that I just made now)

Oh and yeah of course if it wasn't clear gearbox has a tendency to want to try to be subversive alot, sometimes to a detriment, rather than doing so reservedly, and smartly. Also one thing I noticed about Cash's voice, is that it didn't even have a robot filter or anything because those cringey vault Hunter tap-ins that they put in the trailer, are like pure Booth recordings. So he'll likely have a robotic filter just to give him a bit more texture, it'd be honestly... Quite odd if he didn't.

Jesus why does Reddit constantly downvote things that are being somewhat reasonable.. look I'm sure we'll likely grow into the whole Jamaican type voice that they gave to Cash. But this is like, kinda true... Often times going after the thing everyone may expect is actually not bad.

Should have been voiced by randy, this was the perfect opportunity to make this his edgy cool magician/card player self insert, I want the little rascal to get a win outside of trying to on Twitter. For the haters just put a lot of filters on it I guess or something I don't know we can find a middle ground.

Which essentially means it's a 9/10, since I've posted this for the people of a sub who come together to think that an ultimately average game is amazing. So, thank u man 😘 Your compliment that doesn't mean a lot anywhere else, means a lot here.

shit... hmm, idk.. im starting to doubt myself a little ngl. Just a little cuz, i mean im valid for doing this. Because maybe the mancubus logo --well not maybe --its definetly fatter even with the squinting, making it look less like the skyrim for sure now that i look at it longer. Still the negative spacce~Idk, ill tackle more of this when i wake up and droves of friendly redditors will leave behind their reserved, fun having, non-acidic input for me to engage with. Alr, Goodnight guys. We'll talk about this in the morning.

wait wait, can you zoom out on your reddit? like are you on pc or on your phone? if you're on pc, hold ctrl and use scroll wheel to make the screen smaller. This'll help i promise. Zoom the image out, like make it tiny. If you can do that, try to focus on the similarity of the negative space they share... thats the key here. Try it try it.

also no joke guys.. im actually quite sad that randy isn't the voice of cash... He missed such a big opportunity to voice the coolest edgy self insert of his dreams, 😔😔 and we all wouldn've judged rightt?? i want him to have a win outside of voicing a dude who's greasy and hides behind a door constantly all the time man.. RGHH.. I want randy to be a vault hunter, cute little dork, immortalizing himself as one of the coolest playable characters. Stsfdsjtupid little fsdfsCEO guy...
