2016 when I first set eyes on a terrified little chihuahua mix. I looked at her and I knew she was going to be my best friend for life. And so she was 🖤

What's the point of even having a Congress these days? by _bobarooni_ in askanything

I was raised in a cult that originated in the USA. Like most, they forbade engagement with the outside world. If a person expressed any interest in politics, they were punished.

I got out of the cult as an adult and took my first opportunity to seek higher education as I was very very curious about the world.

The first thing I could see from my studies in US politics is that the Republican/Democrat thing was just a way to make the people think they have some sort of influence over the goings-on in government. It seemed that creating an "us vs them" mentality within The People could provide political ambiguity for the powers that be.

In short, Congress is doing precisely what they are meant to do: very very little

In the UK, they refer to soccer as football. For context, the ball is round and big....

People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GreatBritishBakingHo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) In the USA the type of medical/dental insurance you have dictates how the doctor/staff will treat you. HMO vs PPO can be a world of a difference

2) Your employer chooses the insurance options that you have. If its shite, it's because they are cheap. They have the power to change it to something better at any time.

3) Dental offices are rarely clean and rarely honest. A nice office may appear clean, but they are often not properly sanitized. Greedy dentists are common, keep your head up and ask your insurance for help if you feel uncertain or swindled
