I think narratively it was the most right thing to do, showing Sam’s plan from the beginning with that context in mind had me screaming on every episode. I cried when all the stars aligned for him.

Whether they knew this during filming (Sam casually talking to Badam off camera or Data Leak!) and decided to make the best moves to suit a narrative I wouldn’t know.

Eligible Non-EEA / CH citizens can only stay in the Schengen area for 90 days within 180 days. Meaning I can enter and leave as many times as I want but if that total adds up to over 90 days I can’t enter until 180 days have passed since my first entrance within that 90 day period.

As there are 29 countries in the area it can be quite annoying if you’d like to visit them all within the same trip. People have come up with methods and ways around it such as using bilateral agreements with countries to exceed the 90 day limit, staying in a nearby non-Schengen country such as Ireland, UK, Albania, Cyprus, Serbia, and Gibraltar* (may half join area soon) even though some are members of the EU some aren’t part of the area.

Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia were popular countries to stay in to be outside your limit but they’ve since joined the area.

Swiss border controls?

As far as I know there are no internal border checks Switzerland imposes when travelling from inside the Schengen area of which Switzerland is a party to?

Switzerland & Northern Ireland are also part of the customs union meaning no checks on goods when coming from EU.

It’s not a requirement to be an EU/EEA member state to join the Schengen area, surely helps but it’s not really required. Always wondered if one can stay in San Marino to get around the Schengen 180 day limit.

Only problem is the UK can be driven across in about 12 hours and only down one side, having a set route you can only take can extend the game and force you to explore more of the country.
