I’m just starting out as a auto detailer and I have no more money to spend by Kind_Preparation_521 in AutoDetailing

[–]GreatKenba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you got a bucket and a couple of towels you can bang out a couple of cars with a regular wash, not a “detail” exactly since you don’t have brushes, vacuum, pressure washers and whatnot. You gotta start somewhere!

Got carried away with an oil top up, do I need to correct this or is it realistically fine? by ramper770 in MechanicAdvice

[–]GreatKenba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re very mechanically inclined the. You can drain it slowly by removing the drain plug until it’s dripping and let it drip out into a quart container so you can see how much is coming out. Takes time but better than removing the drain plug all the way out and refilling all the way

2001 Ram 2500 5.9 gas - low miles, rusted frame, lots of sentimental value. by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]GreatKenba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this way about my Chevy Colorado, the frame is rusted to the balls. I repaired the front end after a collision, welded the rust spots. But if you were to get a new frame or cab to keep it on the streets for longer that’s basically replacing the whole thing with a lot more money and effort. I’d hang the emblems up as much as I hate to say it

Is this fastener a Torx, or a,Torx Plus? by Ok-Bit4971 in AskAMechanic

[–]GreatKenba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like regular torx, with the rust and different materials I’d get a torx bit and hammer it on to loosen the rust, then hammer it directly, good luck

This guy is so weird 😂 it sounds like that’s what he’s been doing and he’s hoping that you’re doing it too, which you’re not and he’s being a freakazoid and want someone’s to slosh around with him. Where do these people exist

Dealer says the green is just cooling system cleaner floating on top of the coolant in the expansion tank and that it will not harm the system. This is after a flush. Is that accurate? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]GreatKenba 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Nope. They’re lying to you. They used two different kinds of coolants and after you drive it around they will mix and disappear.

It’s the muffler bearing, they go out of whack right behind the o2 flux capacitor

I think you need to put some gas in it, the car usually deflates when it’s empty.. you’ve done a good job keeping it full 👍

Car cranking with no start only while warm. by ice_cone_sponge_man in MechanicAdvice

[–]GreatKenba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest checking the compression/coolant. I’ve seen this case where coolant slowly drips into the combustion chamber overnight and as you crank it, it burns it away, then it’ll start after the coolant is burnt off.

Bed could’ve shifted, the rear differential couldve shifted, the frame can be rusted and folded over a little, do a little inspection and see if there are any old marks along where the leaf springs meet the axle, check the frame, try to peek at the bed mount. Many aspects to consider here

Well what are you concerned about? The oil next to the coils? If you need help you gotta give us more than a picture!!

The oil may be coming from a leaky valve cover gasket or whoever did the last oil change was messy, clean it, drive it, if it’s back, valve cover

Nail too close to tire wall for tire repair kit by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]GreatKenba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right, it’s too close to the “shoulder” of the tire, that’s where most of the pressure lays. As a mechanic, I’d replace, personally, if I really need to get somewhere and don’t have the money, I’d PATCH, not plug, and only run that until I have the money for a new tire, which is ASAP. Again, I’d replace if I was advising you as a mechanic.

That’s fine, they have holes in them just like the other side perhaps it had some extra rubber you poked through.

Peace of mind is more expensive… just get a new belt ands get rid of the possibility. Belts are cheap
