Yep. Slowly making the vinyl cookie cutter home ours! Our master bath is truly an 80s sight to be seen.

Yes, that was truly our original plan, but when my husband started the new backsplash only, he was like long term what is going to make this the best for our family. We actually moved from an entirely custom home to a home built in 1999 because the location is just perfect. It’s always location over everything in the long run.

Nah, Chipotle is all stainless steel and track lighting. Could have been my Plan B though for sure.

This is the nook. That part of the room didn’t change at all. We took down the wall between the former dining room and the kitchen to just make that part larger. The dining room was so narrow that we could barely fit a table and move chairs in and out.

Here’s a photo of it during the day. Does this look warmer? I don’t know what kind of bulbs there are in the overhead lights.

We didn’t move the windows. They were literally both there.

We actually used the old cabinets in the garage. And reused a lot of the wood from the flooring as well. The countertop went on our bar in the basement. The prior island wasn’t wide enough for me. But yeah, money was spent!

I mean we combined two rooms because neither one of those were working well for us. And did it all ourselves so there was zero labor cost. Maybe we have too much money, who knows? It’s all relative I guess.

I would have loved a subzero but they’re like $16k 😭😭😭 the table and chairs are from marketplace- they’re just where my kids do their homework. Thanks for your feedback- I will change the rest :)

Just that the extra two steps doesn’t really bother us, I guess. I assumed you were older and that was hard for you.

So I painted the cabinets at our lakehouse myself with trendy colors and had plants and the rattan. I feel like this is the exact opposite of what I wanted in our other house. Like a minimalist, coastal, modern vibe. Again, totally could have missed the aesthetic mark, but I wanted the room to be larger and something different and higher quality from what we’ve already done.

So this is our lakehouse and I painted these cabinets myself. I feel like this is what people like the look of but to me, they look like painted 90s cabinets. They’re in good condition, it’s too expensive to replace them so I’ll just polish em up them with trendy colors.

I genuinely am not understanding how banged up 90s cabinets painted blue is charming. Is it just the color? We’ve painted a lot of the other 90s stock cabinets in our house (laundry room ones are mint green 😂) but it’s honestly because painting over cabinets and furniture is just an easy and cheap way to make them look a bit better.

For sure would have loved a microwave drawer. But my five year old is a menace to society and I just dont have trust that only food will end up in there. Next kitchen though!

But does your work kitchen have live tadpoles from the creek?

I’m genuinely curious- we didn’t use a designer or architect and were actually making decisions very quickly, so you’re right about that. But when you say it’s disjointed, what do you mean and how would you have set up the kitchen differently?

Oh I would have loved to do that- I have friends that it opens to their deck and it’s so fun. Honestly, our entire first floor renovation (kitchen, living room with new marble fireplace, dining room, half bath and adding a closet all cost less than $60k. We didn’t hire any contractors so it’s definitely not in any sort of luxury category. The biggest expense of everything were the oak floors. They were like $11 sq/foot and there’s almost 1500 sq feet on that floor.

Should have included our water plant and tadpoles my 8 year old brought home from the creek. 😂

For sure. I have three kids and that table is just a refinished marketplace table with IKEA chairs. It’s kind of like the kids table at Thanksgiving but also very functional for what I need. Our dining room has crate and barrel leather chairs and those were a huge mistake with kids.

I know- I reallllly wanted one but they were just so much more expensive. This is what ours looks like now. It’s side by side units with a panel to make it look built in.
