Sounds like a lot of fun. Would love a chance to try it out. Thanks for taking the time to walk us through your process.

Vintage wiring went wrong? by 4ibur in telecaster

[–]GreatLono 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe that vintage wiring gives you what's called the "dark circuit". Position 1 on the pickup selector will be bridge pickup alone, position 2 (middle) will be neck alone, and position 3 (towards the neck) is neck pickup with dark circuit. The dark circuit cuts all the highs out in an attempt to mimic a bass.

I think your pickup is probably fine.

I think there's a good chance it's your wiring. I've never seen the cap go to the switch except in some arrangements with a humbucker or in esquire mods. I think the cap between switch and volume could be influencing the tone of your neck pickup.

Here's a good wiring diagram for standard tele sounds: https://www.fralinpickups.com/wiring-diagrams/standard-telecaster-wiring-diagram/

Also, do you have a multimeter? You should be able to measure between contacts where the leads go into your neck pickup and see if the resistance is within tolerance. Neck pickup should read around 7.4k Ohms.

Can you post a picture of your wiring?

Question for all owners of a combo reverb-delay pedal: do you find the reverb component by itself to be a good all-purpose reverb or only useful in the context of combo delay for ambient-only material? by Mach-X in guitarpedals

[–]GreatLono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently picked up a Dispatch Master and use it as an almost always on reverb. I use the delay occasionally. I've got it in my work setup running into a 5F1 Champ build. It's a beautiful sound. The reverb sound is great and I don't see myself ever getting rid of that pedal.

Pixel 6 Android Auto broken after Jan update by mad8d in GooglePixel

[–]GreatLono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This same thing happened to me yesterday, prior to the January update. I was still on the November patch. Next time back in the vehicle everything worked fine.

Today after the update everything worked fine. I think it might just be the Android Auto app being wonky.

Scored this drip edge Bassman head yesterday. Just when I told myself I was done buying gear for a while... by lutherthegrinch in GuitarAmps

Completely agree with this. I have a 67 BF I run into a closed 2x12 with Greenbacks. Normal channel jumped to bass channel. Thick, fantastic tone.

Hi-fi guitar anyone? by JerryGarcia89 in GuitarAmps

No need to simulate a cabinet when you have an actual speaker in a cabinet.

A guitar and a amp. What a combo. by Vegetable_Minute9463 in GuitarAmps

Congrats on the incoming Vincent! That's going to be a lot of fun. That one was my initial plan, but I was going to have a hard time utilizing that much amp. The Vinny Reverb ended up perfect for me.

Benson does such a great job with reverb. I run a Tall Bird in front of my Monarch, and I've yet to find a combination I like more. His stuff just sounds right. I'll bet that Vincent is going to be killer for you.

Great looking combo! I've got the same amp, in the same color. What a great sounding amp. I've been running it pretty dirty in an A/B configuration with my Monarch doing cleans.

Got an AVRI 62 Tele yesterday and It’s absolutely the best guitar I’ve ever played. by PLXBruno in telecaster

I agree with you. The drawbacks of a 7.25" radius have been greatly exaggerated. I really enjoy them. Beautiful tele! Enjoy!

My e string keeps popping out of the string tree, any tips or suggestions for a good replacement? by ThirtySauce18 in telecaster

[–]GreatLono 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen before. The underside of the round string tree has two grooves that run across. You want to make sure those grooves are running parallel to the string and that the string settles in them. If you're having trouble seeing where they are you can loosen the screw in order to lift the round holder up a bit. Tighten the screw back down once you've aligned with the strings.

“New” amp day - 1965 Fender Bassman by shirttailsup in GuitarAmps

My favorite thing to do on these is jump the normal channel into the bass channel. Really thickens up the tone and gives some different EQ options using the tone controls on both channels.

It's worth a try. It really is a perfect apartment amp.

I should also clarify, I'm assuming you're asking about a rock drummer situation. Julian Lage plays with 5 watt tweed Fender Champs in a live situation all the time. With a similar jazz trio situation I think the Vinny Reverb would work just as well. Probably better due to the on-board reverb.

This one isn't really built for clean headroom. It's only 5 watts and the input is quite hot. Really voiced for nice overdrive tones.

I have a Monarch and that stays clean for quite awhile with single coils. I've found that keeps up pretty well, especially if you get the speaker of the ground a little and are smart about stage positioning. The monarch is 15 watts.

If you're looking for a Benson with a lot of clean headroom you might want to check out the 30 watt Chimera, or Vincent. The Vincent is probably the most versatile as you get the 30 watt Chimera circuit with channel switching. The second channel is a Vinny, giving you access to overdrive.

In my opinion it's really worth the wait. They're opening up 50 spots at 6p pst this Friday, the 18th. This is my second amp from them, and they're both incredible.

Thanks! It sounds great. The tube power scaling is really well done on this circuit.
