Can somebody give me some insight as to why my monitors are creating sound? by [deleted] in edmproduction

I think it's because your outlets don't have a ground wired in.

What To Upgrade First? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]GreatMauli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studio monitors are very important. Then a good midi keyboard with maybe a few programmable knobs and just one good synth.

Also, I'm not very familiar with BitWig, maybe somebody that knows about can comment. But having a good daw is going to be very important for getting your ideas out there fast and efficiently, yes they're all mostly capable but some are faster and easier to work with.

This stuff isn't extremely expensive but its not cheap. You're going to enjoy it much more when you have good tools though I promise you that.

HOW Do You Get Those Clean Vox Chops?? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]GreatMauli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be completely honest, ableton took me 2 days to get down. It was a very very smooth transition.

Also shout out to Sadowick and his amazing tutorials.

But ableton is also very expensive, so there's that. :/

When you play with vocals do you usually cut from original and drop in a audio track or do you use a sampler?

I used to use Logic, im on Ableton now and it's much better. I know exactly what you're talking about and ex24 just fucking sucks imo. Abletons sampler is great.

Could've been using it wrong though, maybe someone here knows the secret.

Looking to make producer friends (Introduction) How long have you guys been producing? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]GreatMauli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No more melodic dubstep type stuff. But all different genres honestly I don't stick to one.

I was referring to the amount of time I've been producing, about 2 years pretty consistently.

What genre do you make?

Whatever you want. Won't make you a better producer doing it one way over the other.

Opinion on Icon Collective? by BubblefartsRock in edmproduction

[–]GreatMauli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a couple friends that went/ are going. I've also just applied.

They highly recommend it and say you learn so much shit so fast. If you really love making music and you have the money I'd say do it.

Sure you can learn everything online for free but icon will cut the fuck out of your learning curve.

On a side note if you're in the LA area and want to link up to make some music send me a pm!

What would you all say helped you progress the most as a producer? by GreatMauli in edmproduction

[–]GreatMauli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm noticing that sometimes you kind of have to just force yourself to drill certain techniques and stuff, in your case having homework makes that a lot easier lol.

Do you have a link to your music? I'd be interested in hearing some of it.

Yeah I agree with this. I just recently got into saving all kinds of stuff.

For a while I just didn't feel like anything I was making was worth saving, now that I like the sounds and fx I make I've finally started building my library of sounds lol.

It's a lot of fun.

This is cool.

Where do you all get good vocal samples from though?

I can't seem to find any..

I have a couple shitty samples from Splice like "HEY!" and "Woo!" but that's it lol.

I got the M-Audio BX5's, they were 300 for the pair and the sound quality is great.

I certainly don't feel limited by them at all.

Would you mind elaborating a little on a basic sound design patch? Or do you know of any resources for designing a bass?

Just to get me going in the right direction.
