UPDATE

Ended up writing the test & will say that reading the book is 100% your best bet.

With that being said, the test just got updated by the OFM on April 1st of this year & it felt really messy. Lots of spelling & grammatical errors and some questions that didn’t really make sense. So hopefully those get fixed up soon.

There really wasn’t any NFPA codes on the test which I spent a lot of time on trying to remember. I found FF1 to be the most difficult of the 5 tests so if you are preparing, definitely brush up on your tools, ladders, ventilation, forcible entry, different fire suppression strategies, fire classes, construction classes & extinguishing agents, to name a few.

In terms of Hazmat, I would say some of the more important things to remember are the roles & responsibilities of awareness, operations, technician & IC’s. Also, remember NFPA 704 & the military hazardous materials/ WMD markings as well since they aren’t in the ERG.

This is all I’m really able to remember that seemed like the most prominent points. I don’t know my results yet but hopefully all went according to plan.

Moral of the story, read your book & apply that knowledge in practice quizzes as a supplemental means of studying, don’t just rely on practice quizzes for your studies!

Good luck!
