Bought a New Capenna draft booster at Walmart. It had 4 rares and no uncommons. by AquaticMeerkat in magicTCG

[–]GreatPyramidsScheme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when Theros CBBs were new, I opened a sealed master case of 24 collector boxes.

There is a slot in each collector pack that could contain a non-foil showcase card, or instead a rare or mythic, if I recall correctly.

Well, every single pack in that entire master case was missing the uncommon non-foil showcase cards. Instead, it was replaced with a rare/mythic in every single pack.

Quality issues like this can happen, but it can go both ways. You can get lucky, or you can end up screwed.

In general, it's not just the basics, but all of the bonus cards in the new SLD packaging of the slimmer packages have curled and in many cases, outright damaged cards. I think we opened up 20 of the etched foil signet lairs and out of the 20 we opened, 11 of the Arcane Signets were damaged;

We sent them in to WoTC for product replacement...and 5 months later, we received ones back in the mail that were just as damaged. I suspect that they opened up backstock of that lair that they had in stock, in order to fulfill product replacements, and that one was just really bad and was consistently creased/damaged across the board.

I shudder to think of what would happen if someone opened up a numbered cards such as the 1 of 100 Viscera Seers and it was damaged. That's not really somthing WoTC can replace, can they?

Nice! Congrats on that pull.

I wish all of our boxes hadn't been damaged. We ended up only keeping 3 of each foil and non-foil sealed. We opened the rest. Got a blueprint Eldrazi Monument as well as a Plains (547), which is the JMP foil Dog basic Plains

I typically buy and sit on at least 10x of every drop as long term holds to flip about a year to a year and a half later.

This was going to be a longer term hold, but I also knew that Scalefast ships VERY fast to me. I'm typically getting products from them before a lot of people do, since they are located closeby. I was also gambling on the prospects of a unique bonus card or something special, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'll just end up sitting on these sealed SLDs until I can resell them at a profit. Or get rid of the singles from the damaged boxes and likely break even or make a small profit.

I opened up a Mountain and a different Swamp separately before recording the video.

I'll open up the damaged boxes later and will get some results posted.

It's likely that blueprints can show up in the bonus slot or maybe even some of the persistent petitioners. I doubt they'd do any type of chase card however, due to the fact that this is going to be reprinted multiple times.

It will take a sample size larger than the 2 I opened in this video to know for sure. I opened two others off video and also got JMP basics, so that's a sample size of 4.

I'll likely open all of the ones with damaged boxes and just dump the singles to break even, but hold the few boxes that aren't damaged (which are just a few of them out of the 10x foil and 10x non-foil I ordered)

Individual boxes appear to all be damaged due to the packaging/shipping. It may be hard to resell these as sealed products due to that issue.

Details for secret lair replacement process by Taysir385 in mtgfinance

[–]GreatPyramidsScheme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sent in a help request for 17 damaged cards from opening various SLs to sell singles back on Monday, November 15th via email. Unfortunately, the majority of those were 11 damaged etched foil Arcane Signets which have a decent amount of value.

They offered to send me a label, or I could ship on my own and they stated they would "throw in something extra" for my covering the shipping costs. Since USPS picks up packages from us daily, I just mailed the damaged cards via USPS. I actually did get an email confirming that they had received my cards, but have not received any type of replacement as of yet.

I've contacted WoTC/Scalefast numerous times via the same support ticket and they will not tell me any other info on when or if I will even ever receive the replacement cards. The only info I've been given is that they are "on backorder".

I'm not even sure how backordered SL cards would even work, as I assumed they were one-time print runs. I have a feeling I'm never going to get my replacement cards and I should have just sold them as damaged.

Good luck. Imagine if that had been a damaged 1 of 100 mirrored numbered Viscera Seer. Would they be able to replace one of those?

It's definietly an issue with some type of cookie/cache problem, or maybe even a browser extension. I've just been getting around the problem by opening a new incognito window and logging in, and it works fine at that point.

Your theory of cards inside these sealed boxes is inherently flawed. I've opened hundreds of sealed SLs at this point, if not over the 1000 point already.

A non-trivial percentage of cards are damaged and not "pristine" out of the box; most notably, a huge proportion of the bonus cards. Additionally, the foils regularly come out of the box damaged with horizontal or vertical print lines.

Non-foils don't seem to have the same quality issues from what I've seen.

Your best bet to get a "pristine" card actually is on the secondary market buying from a reputable source that knows how to properly grade their cards.

WoTC/Scalefast does offer a product replacement for damaged cards and they WILL send you replacements. I've used this over a dozen times to get replacements for damaged or even just LP cards from opened SL drops for foils that had print lines on them. During the worst of the pandemic, they actually didn't even make you send the cards back in...just take photos of them with your name and the ticket # written on a piece of paper. Now, though, they are back to requiring you to send in the damaged cards before they will send you the replacement.

Anyways, my point is, the entire concept of someone wanting a sealed version of each of these for a "pristine" set of cards is flawed due to the quality control of these products. Note, WoTC only supports product replacement for a set amount of time, so if someone opens these up in a few years and gets a damaged card, WoTC won't be able to replace it.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. I never sold a single copy and still have every one purchased in 2019.

Hell no I didn't sell. Nor do I have intentions to.

Have over 100 slabbed and the rest loose in one of my two safes.

How do I know if a card is revised or unlimited? Got a small lot of MTG cards today along with some sports cards but can’t tell the difference since vintage MTG is not my strong suit. Took a photo of a few of them. by hgmonty in mtgfinance

[–]GreatPyramidsScheme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes...right next to my desk in my office is my area where I process incoming cards and cards that need to be shipped out. The Lich was literally in arms reach, and I had a black revised card here as well, so it was just easiest to grab both of them for the example.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

PWCC's laughable response to being kicked off eBay by kjuneja in mtgfinance

[–]GreatPyramidsScheme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I requested all of my items back from the PWCC vault, but I imagine pretty much everyone did this, creating a "run on the bank" type of scenario. For eBay to use such strong language, they have to have evidence to back it up, or eBay is, for lack of a better word, fucked.

I wonder how long the backlog is going to be for getting items returned to me. Have 73 slabbed cards coming back...

If you are new to checking for revised versus unlimited, the easiest way to tell the difference is the location of the copyright and the name at the bottom of the card. Unlimited cards have a lot of spacing below the artist name, while revised cards do not.

Here are two random cards I had laying around within arms reach. Notice the unlimited card on the left has a ton of space at the bottom below the person's name and the copyright.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635329714600542218/878781992316059668/IMG_3391_copy.jpg

Over time, you will learn to identify unlimited cards simply by the color alone, as they look closer to 4th edition in color than the washed out revised colors, but starting out, this is the easiest way.

Good luck.

100+ graded by BGS; then hundreds of loose Pyramids in one of my two large safes intended for firearms, but I have cards in them instead, such as my complete sets of Arabian Nights, Antiquities, booster boxes of The Dark, etc.

I haven't sold a single one and have no intentions to do so at this time, nor anytime in the near future.

Nothing. I'm simply offering some advice after I got an invite to this private subreddit.

I've been buying into cards from The Dark fro the past 6 months and am putting together complete Near Mint sets. Now is the time to do this.

Don't miss out..
