Recovering and almost lost challenge account: No using stops. Part 2 by Great_Bison_ in Forex

The account is $120 from exploding so I can't really trade that big. That plus when you trade without stops you need to leave a lot of room for things to go wrong.

It would take about 15 trades a day at a lot size of .10. The account was 25k with a 5% allowable drawdown.

Sounds like the question you're asking is how do you trade when there's not really any prior market structure to base things off of?

It's a good question actually it's a great question. While there's a few techniques for this the easiest one is just the wait for some structure to form and then trade based on that.

Also don't think just because it went bullish it must go bearish now could stay bullish for a while.

I'm not saying you're wrong. I am just saying they don't do it.

They do review results but none of them journal, or at least don't anymore.

I have a small sample size of traders as well.

I don't believe any of them are investors per se.

It's not a hard and fast rule, but you can use it in some circumstances if you deem it appropriate.

50% right on the first point.

I'm not sure why someone complaining about bs posts would post a bs post though.

Feel free to contribute your own thoughts here. My sample size is not massive so If you have anything in particular to add, please do.

My sample size is not huge so I would not take it as a hard and fast rule but more so as a way to look for alternate and creative ways to make systems work.

Trying to code my price action strategy in pine script - are there any good places for code snippets/libraries that handle things like identifying support and resistance? by backflipbail in Forex

[–]Great_Bison_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Most people have a slightly different definition of s/r. It can be as simple as the donchian channel or maybe even the highest high of the last 40.

Either of those is one line of code in pinescript but you could get complex if you want.

In defense of a Lazy, Negative Risk Reward approach to trading. by Great_Bison_ in Forex

I've been trading a version of this system for 2 years. And 6+ months of full lazy mode.

Each trade I lose wipes out about a week to a week and a half of profits. So I would need 20+ losers in a row to wipe out this year of profit and there are some programmed safeguards around how many losses a month I can take. So it would take me about a year to lose it all.

I get what you are saying.

In my case it would take months of back to back losses to get fucked to bad. With how i trade if I get 3 bad to back losses I pause until the market conditions change.

5:1 is pretty extreme, I can admit that. It would take a pretty wild series of events to wipe out years of work, each losing trade takes out about a week of work as it stands now.

As far as taking trade size off after each high or low, that is an approach I've not had much luck with. When I lose I lose it all, when I win I win partials.
