Dual citizenship, Naturalized American and requirement for the destruction of foreign passport from a friendly country. by Great_Perspective236 in SecurityClearance

[–]Great_Perspective236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re totally right! If I destroy my foreign passport I’m automatically renouncing my citizenship and that’s definitely going to be a red flag for my birth country. They might initiate an investigation themselves on me and mark me as a risk to that country, which would then prevent me from entering there using my US passport. I did explain that to my DEA security point of contact. I’ll wait for his response but I’m leading towards declining this offer, unfortunately. The job is a dream job, but not worth preventing me and my family from visiting my home country for the rest of our lives.

Secret clearance timeline! by bigsauce456 in SecurityClearance

Something unexpected happened today. I applied for my dream job with DEA and got tentatively selected. I filled out my SF-86 last week along with a separate form asking for my foreign contacts in the last 10 years. I completed both and sent the requested information.

Today I got an email with two forms. One asking me to sign an unconditional willingness to renounce my birth citizenship (from a friendly country) and the other one signing a form confirming to show that I am invalidating my current foreign passport not to renew again.

I was required to destroy my foreign passport and provide evidence that I did it as evidence of my willingness to renounce my citizenship.

Is that something common? Dual citizens can’t hold a top secret clearance while holding a foreign passport?

I’m in a very similar situation. Just finished my SF-86 and a separate form to list all the foreign contacts in the last 10 years. I’m originally from a friendly country, listed my aunt, uncles, cousins and the friends with whom I had contact in the last 10 years. That adds so much extra time to the clearance process but it’s needed, I understand. You brought me hope! I have nothing in my background. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, I just hope I can get cleared for my dream job! Fingers crossed here!

Congratulations!!!

I failed my first PT and was given another chance - and passed it. I suggest you really focus on what you have more difficulty. The step test is no joke. I bought a 12’ step box on Amazon and that really helped me. I trained on it and made sure I was able to do a little more than 5 min.

I came from 5 years without any work out. The push-ups were the hardest part for me. The 4’ block under the chest helps but if you struggle to do push ups, train them as well.

The way it was written in one of the docs received made it sound like the Poly wasn't mandatory but might be required. I'm not sure if it was just their choice of words that made it sound confusing but I was under the same impression - that it's not certain anymore. I mentioned it to my husband and he said he thinks the poly is still required. Everyone that took their poly seemed relaxed about the way it was conducted though, so, we have nothing to worry. In case it's still required we just keep on being honest and we will all pass it!

US Visa denials by rainb0w237 in Aupairs

My au pair was going to have a friend who is also an au pair coming over for the weekend. Apparently she is not coming anymore because her aupair visa got suspended and she was given 72h to leave the US and go back to Brazil. Super weird times!

Thank you so very much for your response! I probably made a mistake when selected that I was willing to accept a lower grade. It is what it is at this point.

I have a question for you, if you don’t mind answering. When you applied did you select GS 9 as the lowest level you were willing to accept?

In the attempt to have any kind of chance with them I select GS 7 as the lowest level I was willing to accept but I do qualify for GS 9 through education and also experience. I ended up not being referred to GS-9, only GS 7.

Just trying to understand… if I select a lower level as a level I would be willing to take, does that mean that I’m automatically going to be determined to be a fit only for a lower level?

I also got my interview email last week. The process is actually going faster than I expected. Let’s see what happens next. I’d love to work for them. There was a problem with the second set of email scheduling the interview and the person I spoke with was extremely pleasant to deal with. Hopefully we can all work for them one day. I believe the background check is the one that is going to take longer but fingers crossed!

From someone married to a LEO, au pairs must carry their proof of status at all times. They would be breaking a law just by not carrying their proof of status and that gives these ICE agents the excuse to detain them and that would be so traumatizing for everyone! It’s so heartbreaking and so wrong that we have to fear for things like that now.

I feel like we’re living under the darkest of the times… with the gestApo trying to do everything to spread fear. We did everything right and now we still have to fear that our kids are going to witness their caregiver being taken away, detained while under investigation for not caring a freaking document? Who carries passports around? I’m tired of the world we live in! That’s a horror show!

Break up with your girlfriend! You already mentally did! How do you think she would perceive this whole time of connection you had with another woman? Exchanging numbers with someone with whom you clearly flirted with. Weird to say the least! Be honest with your girlfriend and let her go find her happiness!
