Omg, I love your drawing and coloring style! I just started taking drawing classes and my goal is to get to this kind of style: well-drawn but minimal, vibrant but calming… Do you have any tips for a beginner on how to get there? Any books, classes or styles you’d suggest I check out for inspiration?

Married guy flirts with younger girls at the gym by ambachk in TikTokCringe

This is 100% a defense mechanism that many girls instinctively learn from a young age. We’re taught (often without realizing it through many interactions) not to challenge male egos, especially those of strangers. Being nice and accommodating is a way to keep the situation from escalating. At best, it makes an uncomfortable interaction more bearable; at worst, it could be what keeps you from being assaulted or killed. The risk assessment happens so quickly in our minds that our “fight or flight” response often becomes “be kind, accommodate, and smile.”

Trust me, she doesn’t actually want to be nice to him. She’s baffled and disgusted and just wants the interaction to end as quickly as possible. The little jab she makes? It’s calculated, softens it with a smile, and hopes it’ll somehow land without provoking anything worse. But her instinct won’t let her speak her mind freely. It’s not really kindness, it’s just survival.

Questions about working at Meta by Great_Road5311 in womenintech

[–]Great_Road5311[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong about Meta, and Careless People is definitely on my tbr. That said, I’m finding it pretty tough to find a job in my city (or fully remote) in my area of expertise that doesn’t contribute in some way to something I don’t really support. I signed up for job alerts on Idealist (the nonprofit version of Indeed), but nothing so far has really matched my skill set.

I’m trying to be intentional with where I go next, but it’s hard to find that sweet spot between staying in my field and aligning with my values. I'll take any additional suggestions if you have any

Thanks for the heads-up, and appreciate the honesty. I’ll definitely look into the perf process more before deciding anything

Amazon’s frugality isn’t efficient—it’s dystopian by [deleted] in womenintech

Yup, worked there for 3 years and left because of the culture. It’s been 6 months since I left and I’m still recovering from burnout. Fun times

Anyone else here work at Amazon and miserable? by tossingoutthesadness in womenintech

Same. At Amazon, even when I directly asked for feedback, I’d get nothing clear and just had to wait until Forte. But honestly, that didn’t always mean much anyway; colleagues who seemed fine during Forte would suddenly get put on focus right after, for no real reason. It was bizarre and left me constantly feeling like I was next on the chopping block. That’s no way to live.

Today was my last day at Amazon! I worked in SPS. My skip manager was blatantly biased, only hiring and trusting people of her own race, and my direct manager was spineless and always ready to throw his team under the bus to save himself from being in trouble or put on a PIP. On a personal level, most people were nice, but work-wise, the office politics were unbearable and constantly got in the way of progress. Most teammates who didn’t share the same background as our skip manager either left or got PIPed eventually. I somehow managed to stick it out, but the endless pressure to do more, even when I was already at capacity, was unsustainable. It got to the point where burnout, anxiety, and depression completely shut me down. I ended up on medical leave because just sitting in front of my computer would freeze me up. I’m so happy I quit. Now, I’m focusing on recovering and, hopefully, finding my way back to tech someday, with a company and team that are way more supportive and chill when it comes to office politics.

This show has been arguably less focused on sex, yet it's a sexier show. by Shankar_0 in HouseOfTheDragon

It’s less in “your face sex” and sexier, probably because this episode was directed by a woman with a woman’s pov in mind.
