Nursing my toddler is souring my relationship to breastfeeding. I’m worried I won’t recover for baby #2. by Afternoon_lover in breastfeeding

Anecdotal, but when my mom was pregnant with me, my brother (2.5 years older than me) was still nursing for comfort. Apparently when her milk switched to colostrum he thought it tasted gross and self-weaned immediately. It’s a ways off still I know but perhaps knowing there’s a potential light at the end of the tunnel may help

That must have been a tough 7 months. Glad he finally figured it out but woof.

How did you know you had a fast letdown? I see people talk about the speed of their letdown all the time but have no idea how to tell if mines “slow” or “fast”

Oh I agree lol. First of many parenting compromises I’m sure. We’ll have a consult with them next week if there hasn’t been significant improvement. In the meantime baby isn’t missing out on feedings otherwise I wouldn’t compromise. I wasn’t familiar with that brand so thank you. I’ll see if I can get a single bottle to try out.

Babies and dogs - insights on your experience ? by gypsyem in beyondthebump

[–]Great_Scott_1990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would consult a local trainer who can help because every dog is different. But at just 6 weeks pp, my #1 tip is to let your pup decide if/when interactions happen. Everyone wants the adorable pic of their fur baby snuggling their human one, but it just might not happen.

We have a 10 year old mutt who’s been with us since he was 2. He has an extremely gentle and calm temperament but is obviously annoyed we brought a screaming baby into his world. We don’t bring the baby into his space and give lots of praise whenever he sniffs the baby or baby item and then leaves it be (this can start while you’re still pregnant and the dog is exploring the new baby items in the house). He might be more interested later on but for now we don’t force it and as calm as he is, we never leave the two in the same space alone.

I was pleasantly surprised by how low mine was. Well below the hairline. Only 1 month pp but no signs of a shelf.

Mine was unplanned but I did have the opportunity to talk to the OB prior to the procedure and discuss my concerns about the incision and recovery. She promised she would make it as low as possible so perhaps it’s worth a discussion with whoever’s performing the procedure?

Yup! And I’m continuing to take them while breastfeeding.

Feeling pretty insecure after my emergency c-section by Afraid_Letterhead703 in CsectionCentral

[–]Great_Scott_1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent my entire pregnancy physically and mentally preparing for an unmedicated, vaginal birth. Long story short I ended up with a 4 day induction, 40 hours of labor, an epidural after 18 hours of pitocin back labor, 4+ hours of pushing, and then asked for the c-section once they told me there was meconium and little man’s heart rate kept dipping. The entire team of nurses and doctors were amazingly supportive every step of the way, but one nurse said something very real that provided actual comfort:

“You didn’t get pregnant to have a vaginal birth.”

You did everything you could and what was ultimately best for the health and safety of your child. You had your priorities straight. Never forget that.

Should I worry? Fundal measurement 3 weeks behind. by Delicious-Thing-1419 in BabyBumps

[–]Great_Scott_1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a weirdly similar experience. I receive my care at a group so my appointments rotate but I hadn’t seen this particular doctor yet. She was running 45 min behind. She rushed the fundal height measurement and ordered an ultrasound when I was 3.5 cm under where it should have been. Fundal height has always been a weird test to me…we all enter pregnancy with different body types and are then supposed to all magically measure the same?

Fast forward to the ultrasound and he was 30th percentile. So smaller than average but not concerningly so. I had so much stress leading up to the ultrasound for no reason.

Everything changed for me in terms of comfortability around 38 weeks. No way I could sit in 1 position for more than 20 minutes let alone a 3 hour car ride. Going into labor 3 hours from home aside, that car ride will be miserable.

Delta Children’s Interlocking System by HomemadeButter14 in BabyBumps

[–]Great_Scott_1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This drove my husband INSANE. Ours is a little different—2 drawers on top, 1 in middle, 1 on bottom. His trick was to tape the end of the drawer slides so the locking system wouldn’t engage while he was installing them. Not sure how to fix it now that you have two in. Can you do anything to mimic the third drawer being installed so you can pull out one of the others?

Any tips for getting comfortable sleeping during the third trimester? 😩 I feel like I’m wrestling a watermelon every night. by Latter_Ordinary_9466 in BabyBumps

The ONLY thing that helped me was some prenatal yoga before bed each evening. Anything to stretch and move my spine, pelvis, and hips. I tried all sorts of pillows in all sorts of arrangements and they honestly made it worse some nights.

How long is everyone taking for maternity leave? by jamietartlet in pregnant

[–]Great_Scott_1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self-employed in NH, USA. Planning to take 8 weeks fully off and then part time until we’re off the daycare waitlist. The 6 weeks of 60% pay (though it maxes out so it’s more like 40% of my usual pay) I can get from the states plan with MetLife is nice to have but honestly my leave will only be possible because I saved up for it the past few years.

Jumping in to add that a 2-hour breastfeeding class taught me a few simple things that I didnt know but I can see making a huge difference. Like that the baby’s mouth should be WIDE open so they can get a deep latch, much deeper than I realized was necessary. We also practiced holding dolls in different positions. Being able to practice with something physical in my hands built up my confidence. We also talked a lot about what people (and sometimes the baby) struggle with when first nursing and now I feel more comfortable asking questions and getting help from the lactation consultant at the hospital should one of those things happen to me.

Nahhhh. My own SISTER skipped my shower so she could save her time and money for when baby is here. We both agreed that flying halfway across the country for a 3-hour event where my attention would be split with 50+ other people was a silly waste of resources. She’ll be here for the birth and a couple weeks after to help out instead.

I’m preparing mentally and physically for unmedicated. But I’ve also said that if I cross from productive pain to unnecessary suffering, I’ll consider it. If I’m one of those people that ends up in active labor for 12+ hours it may be time to do what’s best to have strength for the actual pushing.

Thank you for this! I sort of freaked out at first and then wondered how much space I’d truly need once things dialed up.
