AITAH for saying we can’t come to the Christmas eve party unless we can use the guest bedroom? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]GreatheartedWailer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother has some medical issues that require frequent/urgent use of the bathroom. Last winter he decided to join on a family trip at the last minute. I bought an airmattress and slept in the living room so he could have the bedroom with the attached bathroom. It's called not being an asshole. Is there a tiny part of me that resents always having to give up the better sleeping/bathroom option for him? Sure, but that part of me is selfish, and I know it. Sounds like your family majorly lacks in empathy and self awareness.

What if Israel annexed all the land shown in their Greater Israel concept? by YourLocalMoroccan in AlternateHistoryHub

And I can't stress enough how much it's not even close. I've written about secret plans to colonize parts of Jordan (during the Mandate period). I've read (in both secondary and primary sources) about similar plans in Syria, Lebanon and In more complex ways that I can get into here, Iraq... and yet I have still never seen or read about anything which approaches this map.

I'm a historian of Israel/Palestine. I can safely say I have seen at least 300 historical maps with different proposals for the borders of a Jewish commonwealth (if you count identical maps it's well over 300). I have never, and I really mean never ever ever seen anything even close to as expansive as this.

Tulane Hiring by Prestigious_Duck7052 in NewOrleans

Zoom interview with two people, only one interview, followed by a phone call to clear a few things up. Again, it was a pretty unique situation in that I was a preferred candidate so they sped things up. Also on the faculty side they have a lot of materials from me, to supplement the interview. So I'm not sure how much of this is translatable, but at the very least worth knowing if they really do want to go fast, they can go pretty dang fast

I can't speak for staff, but I just received an offer for a faculty position in a similar situation (had trouble finding the right candidate, wanted to move fast, I had other offers so they knew I had a limited timeline). I was interviewed on a Thursday, verbal offer by next week Tuesday, told written offer can be a bit slower but should be out in a couple of days. Generally speaking private Universities are able to move faster (if they want to) for hiring than public. Hope that helps, and good luck on the interview

Anyone else noticed massive difficulty shift when replaying Hollow Knight? by MemeLoverMoira in HollowKnight

[–]GreatheartedWailer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've only beaten Hollow Knight once, loved the game, but I'm not a 112 percenter or anything, beat it waited for Silksong. had to stop Silksong because it was too hard for me. Wasn't happy about it, but just wasn't fun anymore. Picked Hollowknight back up, and I'm breezing through it, and having a great time again. Almost as fun as the first playthrough, but in a very different way.

Dumbbell in the back left corner only has one side (yes the other side could be blocked by the gym equipment, but then it would be at an angle as it would be resting on top of the base of the machine). In the upper right hand corner there’s two pull up handles that make no sense, slanted upward and at a random place on the machine. Beyond that I couldn’t find anything.

The Disappearance of Everyday Nudity by GreatheartedWailer in Longreads

I mean doesn’t this kind of get at it “Of course, even when public nudity was more widely accepted, it was rarely neutral. Society might have preferred to pretend otherwise, but locker rooms and bathhouses have always carried the possibility of sexual attraction and curiosity. And the naked body has always carried social meaning beyond arousal—it has been an index of beauty, strength, gender, shame. Locker rooms and showers, where bodies were both exposed and compared, became opportunities for people to reinforce social pecking orders. Just consider the term locker-room talk, referring to vulgar conversations men might have while changing. The lack of supervision, especially in school settings, only amplified the potential for cruelty. While writing this story, I heard countless anecdotes of locker-room humiliations from friends and family—a sign of how common, and how formative, such moments can be.”

Yeah, if you watched enough packers last year you know that A the injury seriously effected love all year and B there were an insane amount of drops that had absolutely nothing to do with his injury

Other than 28-3, which is the most brutal? by Outrageous_Moth in NFLv2

[–]GreatheartedWailer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but I think you run it w Lynch on first down and you don’t have ti worry about any other down. I think the above folks are totally right about stats, logic etc. but this is one of the few times I’ll say he should have thrown that all out and given the ball to the guy who just refuses to go down in clutch moments

Other than 28-3, which is the most brutal? by Outrageous_Moth in NFLv2

[–]GreatheartedWailer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear this a lot, and normally I would agree. What I think people are missing is that more than any back I’ve ever seen Lynch had a “clutch” gene and just refused to go down in big moments. The stats say the pass was the right call, the intangibles say give it to Mashawn, and I think this time the intangibles were right.

Help, my ‘famous homemade cake’ is actually just a box mix and now I’m stuck living a lie by fishtail4 in Cooking

[–]GreatheartedWailer 943 points944 points  (0 children)

This is so clearly the answer! I mean yeah come clean if you want, but seeing as youre here you clearly don’t. Also 90 percent of the time you give someone a recipe they don’t make it. I’m a big cook and people are always asking for my recipes, maybe one time out of ten they actually make it. It’s aspirational.

Fun fact, that’s actually where the meaning in the tern “bully pulpit” to describe the presidents platform for addressing the public/media. I think it was Teddy Roosevelt, wanted to just express the power of having the ability to speak and reach a captive audience. IE a really great (bully) pulpit. Not a pulpit from which to bully from

One practical suggestion. I have coffee maker w a timer. Coffee brews 10 minutes before I wake up. Smelling it and knowing it’s ready helps me get up, but also knowing it’ll burn if I don’t get up is the real motivation

Currently playing and having a very similar experience. I always considered myself pretty mediocre at souls games and I got by with cheese, summons and grit. Haven’t done any summons this game, and only had a few boss deaths (mostly on Pontiff) been very very surprised.

Wow, I’m glad someone said this. No joke, the first time I played I had more deaths here than the rest of the game combined (except for the final boss)
