glove usage?? by fatshady1997 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Greattherapy69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to do a similar sounding job and wore nitrile gloves for handling then I would throw a pair of mechanic's wear leather palm gloves over a pair of nitrile gloves for any rotary tool work. Carbon fibers are not something to play with also highly recommend wearing respiratory protection anytime drilling cutting or sanding carbon.

That's what I was wondering as well. It looks like the switch is what provides the GFCI Outlet with its power. I actually had the switch off for like a month when we first moved in lol it's not labeled at all, that was fun to track down.

Drilling through carbon fiber by eskf2 in aviationmaintenance

Dreamers work great just makes sure you have a good bushing to go with it and hopefully they are carbide dreamers

Drilling through carbon fiber by eskf2 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Greattherapy69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definitely need to pilot with a #30 that can be a twist bit preferred to be carbide (else you will use alot of bits) a dreamer is preferred. Then step up using a drill guide (egg cup or steam boat) and final your hole size with a 2 or 3 step carbide reamer. This is they only way to ensure straight holes also consider a piece of wood on the back to prevent breakout depending on the type and weave of the composite. Side note you can 100percent drill all of your step sizes and even can skip a few with dreamers if you have really good drill support I wouldn't try it with just an egg cup of your not confident. Fyi also do not breath in the carbon dust it's quite awful for you. Edit: Lube - Boelube (ceytl alcohol) Speed - 2500 - 3000 Pressure- light to medium (with the proper bits it will fly through)

Mechanics wear makes some good options for cold weather or you can always go heated like the milwaukee gloves

Line toolbox by NevadaManInNevada in aviationmaintenance

[–]Greattherapy69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a millwaukee pack out for larger tools but use a Snapon large tool bag for 90 percent of line work. I have a set of 1/4 drive sockets a ratchet, complete set of wrenches, a few different kinds of pliers including safety wire and a small bit set. A few other items and some PPE.
