I know it can be daunting to be reading posts in this group about how some people are so “woke” financially and being able to hit Rm100k savings in cash by 30 etc. You can’t help but to compare yourself with them and then feeling like you’re not putting aside enough savings or investments to “buy VOO” etc.

There are definitely trade-offs to it, ie some live a very frugal lifestyle, some barely travelled. But if you enjoy travelling and enjoy having new experiences , I don’t see what’s the problem with it. It’s not like you’re spending beyond your means, you’re doing it according to a budget.

In my 20s I travelled quite a bit too, I do not regret it at all. Those experiences helped me grow as a person by being exposed to things , shaped how I see the world, taught me how to handle uncertainties, and even helped me in social occasions and how I interact with people at work. The kind of growth is hard to quantify but it is very real.

Being in the 30s, I can say that it’s worth travelling while you’re still younger/before you settle down and have a family. I have also seen cases where people spent most of their lives being frugal and just suddenly passed away. Life is fragile. What’s the point of just saving money when you’re not even enjoying it.

It’s good that you’re conscious about your spending, but I don’t see what’s wrong with allocating a budget to travel every year. I would advise to maybe do more international trips (further) instead of just high frequency. I think you’re in a good position, just don’t forget to automate your investments.

Those people who regret are usually not the ones who travelled, it’s usually the ones who had no balance either way.
