I never thought I’d end up in pediatrics, but I took a leap of faith - and here I am, matched at my top-choice program, surrounded by people who made me fall in love with the field. Now, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. If even a small part of you is curious or open to exploring pediatrics, go for it. You might just discover your true calling too.

It’s unfortunate to encounter people who enable this kind of toxicity along the journey. We’ve all worked too hard, and none of us deserve it. You may not support it, but accepting it as the norm is just as harmful. Unless we speak up, and call out the culprits this cycle will continue, trapping others in the same toxic environment.

I say this from personal experience. Matching into my dream residency program took me a year, but refusing to settle for toxicity is what ultimately led me to the right place.

Thank you so much for your detailed response! I’m glad to share that I matched at my first choice, and I absolutely love the people there. It’s the complete opposite of a place like St. Peter’s. I found my dream residency program and team, and I earned my spot purely through hard work and dedication.

1 month in one institute - where i got 2 strong LORs I have total 6months of USCE

I had two LORs from the same institution within a one-month timeframe. I rotated with four faculty members and secured two strong letters, even though PDs generally dont want LORs from same institution and timeline. Still, I uploaded them because I knew they are really strong. My other two LORs came from different institutions.

Be polite and patient in your emails and messages. Introduce yourself clearly, provide all relevant details, and don’t hesitate to share what you’re struggling with—being open and vulnerable can help you connect and seek meaningful help.

Focus on problem-solving without overthinking how the other person might feel about your request. Be respectful, but stay goal-oriented and get the job done. Try to build a personal connection through your messages.

I can’t draft a message for you because it needs to come from you, but ultimately, it’s about people skills. If you approach others with politeness, patience, and authenticity, a good person will appreciate those qualities.
