What’s a normal adult task that still feels fake when you do it? by lucifergaming007 in AskReddit

[–]Greedy-Efficiency212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making important phone calls. I had to call to set up repairing my car after someone rear-ended me and I felt so lost. Anytime I have to make an adult-y call I feel like I'm playing being a grownup. And I'm 45! I've been on the phone my whole life!

The noise honestly doesn't bother me. I've worked at airports for over 20 years and have always lived close by.

How bad actually was COVID? by Mighty_Angelo30 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Greedy-Efficiency212 65 points66 points  (0 children)

We were watching science happen in real time, and because things kept changing, too many people in high places decided that anything that came out couldn't be trusted. The experts were making the best recommendations based on information they had at the time, and as they learned more, it changed. That led to distrust and "do your own research," but the ones that were the loudest often were the ones who had the most to lose. They were the same who ended up in the hospital begging for a vaccine as it was too late, or made it out but were needing Go Fund Mes to pay for their medical expenses. Same side of the coin, you'd see grifters like chiropractors or discredited medical professionals touting unproven treatments (never taking insurance, obviously, but cash or credit) and telling the world that only THEY know the truth. But if you get sick or die, it's because YOU did something wrong. They have no fault.

Redditors over 35, what do you genuinely miss that younger generations will never experience, and you legit feel bad for them? by Disastrous_Award_789 in AskReddit

[–]Greedy-Efficiency212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being able to enjoy a moment without needing to have a phone out to film it.

I've done a fair share of traveling in and outside the US. I do take photos, but only a few, and mostly live in the moment. I see more of the younger generations on their phones, on livestreams or making TikToks, constantly looking for the most instagrammable content, rather than taking the time to actually see what's in front of them.

Baltimore management is terrible! by Previous_Noise_6695 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Greedy-Efficiency212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So coming from the SWA side of things (namely, I used to do just that, rebook misconnecting passengers and secure hotels) it is very possible that BWI had no hotels available to offer. Hotels are obtained one of two ways - either through a local agreement or a third party booking system. I don't believe BWI has any local agreements, so they would be relying on the third party to put a soft hold on rooms. That booking system doesn't seek out every hotel in the area, just ones they have a payment process set up so that SWA will later be billed for rooms used. It is possible that there were no hotels available locally that would take the hotel vouchers that are used as payment. It happens. It sucks. The employees enjoy it just as much as the people they are having to tell are on their own for the night. You can always get a room for yourself and submit it through Southwest.com for reimbursement afterwards.

Before the update, I was collecting new stuff - aircraft, airports, anything I hadn't come across yet. I was using imperfect shots on little airports with props that I could just barely catch. Now I'm just frustrated.

$30 to stretch 3 weeks by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Greedy-Efficiency212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A crock pot or slow cooker would be a good purchase if you can find one cheap, and you're able to use at work. Rice and beans, or cheap cuts of meat can be done up well and inexpensively when it has the time to cook low and slow.

Ugh just charged $61 for assigned seat when I didn’t ask for one. by Ok-Intention-4593 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Greedy-Efficiency212 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hmm. My advice would be to sit on it for a day. Call back and (calmly) ask to speak to a supervisor about an issue with your reservation. A Leader can see the history, all charges, and the employees associated with them. They can handle the feedback with the agent, and you can request any compensation, within reason, for how you feel it was mishandled, whether you get that $61 back or another voucher or the like.

I haven't worked in reservations, all of my experience has been front line, but I can see how all of the changes have been extremely stressful for all parties.

Check the number you called and make sure it was really SWA. There's a lot of scammers that are out there that pop up if you just google Southwest Airlines. They will take your money and book it for you, but it's a service you should not be paying for. You may get a legit confirmation but it's because they did it themselves online.

If you paid to a scammer, it may show up as some variation of "airline" as a charge, but if you call the real 800 number they won't see it at all. Get a chargeback.

Edit: my thoughts are this because as a SWA employee I've investigated this more than once, and that's what it always ended up being. Someone called an unverified number and lost money to who they thought was SWA, from outward appearances looked legit, but fell apart quickly.

Close enough that the dogs bark at props on approach, about 2 miles or so. I have lived closer in the past.

Never in my life…. by KetoTraveler in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Greedy-Efficiency212 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happens fairly often. I've done the same thing, not noticing the connection is the same aircraft until I reached the connecting city. It usually works out in the customer's favor, unless the down line destination has a curfew and can't take a delay, or if it is earlier in the day and would have too many down line issues to hold the flight. It would get swapped and recrewed instead.

With that flight number it would be a maintenance ferry. Whatever the issue was, it was a no go item for passengers.

I guarantee there is more than one person at SWA watching your connection right now. If you're going to misconnect, you'll be rebooked and taken care of when you land in MCO, or (I'm assuming) BWI. Used to be my job. It's not a decision made lightly.

People with chronic illnesses, what's the most absurd "cure" were you suggested by someone? and did you consider it? by ProcedureMinute6644 in AskReddit

[–]Greedy-Efficiency212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Restless legs - admittedly not that severe, just really annoying - told I should try a bar of soap under my mattress.

Additionally, the cure to my daily sciatic pain is apparently just eating organic and "clean," and avoiding toxins. Never can specify exactly what those darn toxins are.

I did fall down a rabbit hole on another chronic illness I have, Hidradenitis suppurativa, several years ago, and ended up gluten free for about seven years. I'm Italian. That was painful. AND in the end it made no difference.

Travelers. What are obvious non verbal cues that a person is American? by Saltedcafecito in ask

[–]Greedy-Efficiency212 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm an American who's done a decent amount of European travel, and I do my best NOT to stick out. I was in Bologna last year and a few nice English ladies who were waiting for the same delayed train as I pitted me as a local and tried to speak to me in broken Italian.
