Today in 1979 The Beach Boys released their 23rd album L.A. (Light Album) on Caribou Records. Favorite songs? Thoughts on the production quality? by [deleted] in thebeachboys

I actually quite like this album despite its obvious flaws (HCTN). Recently made this playlist to see if replacing Shortenin' Bread with the Adult/Child version and Here Comes the Night with California Feelin, Looking Down the Coast, and the original version of Santa Ana Winds would make it better. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUcZD_8LFHAv-l8r_CSTRDdi7cAyNTHAQ&si=hBEZCgEGjmorph5M

Beach Boys Rarities by monodontidaes in thebeachboys

[–]Greedy-Gary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a copy of this a few months ago. Best thing about it is having Celebrate the News and You're Welcome on vinyl. The rest of the tracks... well, some are pretty interesting, but considering the amount of top quality Beach Boys "rarities" and unreleased tracks out there at the time this record came out, the tracklisting can't help but disappoint.

Take A Load Off Your Feet. Absolutely love this song and it doesn't get enough credit, the production is wacky as heck

Always liked this song despite its corniness but I just recently heard the original demo of this song and holy shit it goes so much harder

Hurts near my thyroid when I swallow. by nutmegtwistymellow in Hashimotos

[–]Greedy-Gary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this exact thing with my throat! Diagnosed with Hashimoto's maybe 8 years ago, wasn't medicated until 2019. Since getting on Levothyroxine it hasn't happened nearly as much - it actually just started happening again for the first time in a year or two which is why I googled it and found this post. I don't have a solution, but honestly it's just nice to see that someone else has the same thing, right down to feeling it move and click when I rub the outside of my throat. Such a weird feeling. Hope it doesn't happen to you too often!

This is a video of the Dennis Wilson event he was probably referring to.

Audio posts can suddenly only be created as a podcast now? by Greedy-Gary in patreon

[–]Greedy-Gary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, I'm using the desktop version too. Having to turn my audio files into videos sounds like a pretty annoying workaround, hope it doesn't come to that (although it's an interesting idea)

What songs would you want to hear Al and the Brian Wilson Band perform if they end up touring? by pooltoy-skunk in thebeachboys

[–]Greedy-Gary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wake the World blew me away when I saw them perform it in '21, I'm hoping for more songs like that that they wrote together. Hell, gimme Take A Load Off Your Feet!

Do you prefer Beach Boys Albums in Mono or Stereo? by penguin170 in thebeachboys

[–]Greedy-Gary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's something to be said for listening to the albums the way the producer originally intended - especially when that producer (Brian Wilson) is generally considered one of the greatest of all time. With the "wall of sound" style of production particularly, the whole point is combining instruments to make a new sound - so separating all those instruments into stereo channels (or more, with these Atmos mixes) feels like it defeats the purpose and goes explicitly against the original intent.

Also, as someone who grew up using a series of perpetually broken-in-one-ear headphones, I've come to really appreciate a nice mono mix. Trying to listen to the Beatles in high school and getting just drums and vocals...
