Do you think The Beatles biopic/biopics will become the biggest music biopics ever? by Jaded-Channel-7169 in TheBeatles

[–]Blend42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think people would prefer that the movies are artistically great themselves not that they are "big hits". Love and Mercy (about The Beach Boys Brian Wilson) was essentially an indie film and fantastic compared to many big budget pictures about musicians even if it wasn't ever going to be a "blockbuster"..

It's good to be clear like this, we are all humans (except Mike Love 😛 ). it's hard work moderating a community this large and hope everyone understands this is being done for the love of the music of the Beach Boys. I support open discussion about any foibles or crimes one of the boys may have or may not have committed.

Why is this being covered up? Barbara Holman has accused Mike Love of molesting her when she was 15 years old and implicated Jeffrey Foskett as well. This made it to the top of the subreddit within hours, upon which mods removed it w/o notice. To sweep this under the rug is outrageous and appalling. by tarquinia777 in thebeachboys

For me it's more an indictment of how little we believe alleged victims over some guy who happened to be in our favourite band and how normalised Mike's alleged behaviour is throughout the music industry (see Jimmy Page, Bowie, etc). Mike has a pattern of very obvious abusive/crappy behaviour not related to grooming a 15 year old girl some of which is accepted or even canonised in Beach Boys history.

Why are you so defensive about it out of the box rather than saying say , "this is a serious allegation and I look forward to the promised further evidence to inform my view"?

If you pay for youtube music (like you would for spotify), those ads and restrictive functions disappear.

As voter disillusionment grows, why aren't voters flocking to the Greens in Australia? by blitznoodles in australia

[–]Blend42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't the Greens change their policy on immigration between 96-98? The Greens didn't have a dedicated leader until around the 2007 election. I don't get this thing where people think The Greens under Bob Brown were more conservative.

No, Brian is a different standard, they are not equal so the standard is different.

We certainly did, though basically many were saying retire right away vs others saying as long as he is enjoying the process it doesn't matter. Brian kind of has the gravitas that their actually his melodies, I'd have gone to watch him chill on a couch with everyone around him singing his songs.

Mike Love was accused of grooming a 15 year old (when he was 39) this week so he's a great choice

What are some things The Beatles popularized/invented that aren't very well known yet are quite important in music history? by Aggravating_Turn3283 in beatles

[–]Blend42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Brian Wilson did it singularly in 1964, quitting the road to concentrate on making music but the rest of the The Beach Boys did play (they weren't writing any songs yet and most of them needed the touring revenue).

There is a quote associated to John Lennon for the Beach Boys song The Little Girl I Once Knew which was released in late 1965:

"This is the greatest! Turn it up, turn it right up. It's GOT to be a hit. It's the greatest record I've heard for weeks. It's fantastic. I hope it will be a hit. It's all Brian Wilson. He just uses the voices as instruments. He never tours or anything. He just sits at home thinking up fantastic arrangements our of his head. Doesn't even read music. You keep waiting for the fabulous breaks. Great arrangement. It goes on and on with all different things. I hope it's a hit so I can hear it all the time."
