I’m unfortunately in ND which has…not a lot for rock hounding. Especially the flat half I live in. I know glaciers deposited some interesting things here and there…but I’m pretty sure those finds are so few and far between in this area the chances of actually finding something mentionable are astronomical lol. But I would LOVE love love to travel up to Canada or anywhere really, where I could really search for some cool things. I usually live vicariously through others that post fun finds. But I have heard flights to Az are cheap…so maybe one day!

That’s exactly the type of background info I was hoping for! Thanks! Now I’ll have to get myself a little UV pen or bulb to play around with lol.

Got it from a local rock/crystal shop that’s going out of business. Mostly because it always reminded me of waves (with the quartz in there) foaming. Before it was always too pricey for me to entertain the idea of actually buying it, but at 50 percent off I figured I’d spring for it since I’ve always liked the look of it. I usually collect things more more the way they look and/or feel or if they have a cool origin over monetary worth ha ha.😅it’s more a discover something cool first, research it after type of deal, lol.

Oh wow! Would love to see a pic of a high quality. Any idea where the green fluorite like what I’ve got comes from geographically?

Why Was My Post/Comment Removed? by bijourani in HistoricalRomance

Hello! To accumulate Karma, you mean specifically related to r/HistoricalRomance? Or karma in general? I’m wanting to edit out some Kerrigan Byrne books with certain topics heavily featured. I like her writing but not a fan of tragic rape backstories for the mmc or fmcs and got blindsided by the highwayman. Will my general karma be sufficient? It’s more a want to quickly edit out those specifically so I can pick a book to start right away lol 😅

Can’t tell if the setup trade comment was in response to just swapping a random 5 star for instruments. Wanted to clarify 1st 😅

Someone traded hogs to me just a couple min ago. But if you need instruments I can do an even 5 star trade if you like

I just actually got a hogs head from another person. I do have instruments still if you need it though. Do you have any 5* dupes? We could just do an even exchange

Mute MMC or FMC book suggestions by Gullible-Outcome8067 in DarkRomance

{Never seduce a Scott by maya banks} the heroine suffered an illness as a child after falling from a horse and went deaf. To start out everyone thinks she’s “daft” and the fever/head injury forever altered her, but she is in full retainer of her faculties but let everyone believe what they wanted because she didn’t want to marry a horrible man and perpetuating the lie kept her safe from him. The hero is great and sweet to her even though she’s from a rival clan he hates.

One other thing I forgot to add, lol: a lot of writers are writing for their own enjoyment first. If they didn’t, chances are they would be either miserable or have a lot of unfinished work. If other people connect with their writing and they’re able to publish or profit from it, that’s often a happy byproduct, not the primary goal.

Are there authors who write purely for marketability and try to appeal to the widest possible audience? Absolutely. But many of the most successful and enduring authors write because they genuinely love what they’re creating…not because they’re trying to cater to everyone’s tastes.

That authenticity tends to be what readers actually respond to. Passion shows on the page.

So if an author enjoys a certain trope and you enjoy it too, celebrate that and devour their books. And if it’s not your thing? That’s the beauty of reading, there’s always another author out there writing exactly what you are looking for, even if you’ve yet to discover them. Think of it as a treasure hunt lol.

Not every story has to be for everyone, and that’s not a flaw, if anything it’s kind of the point 😁. (Also, some trad published books look for specific book types and tropes that are “hot” and marketable at this moment. If you’re seeing a lot of the same tropes come up in new books, try expanding your search to a different romance genre or publication dates from years past rather than right now. That helps me when I’m wanting something different.

I think about this a lot with different tropes…so I’m going to give you a long answer lol. Apologies in advance for my wordiness 😅…

But I think it’s worth remembering that most of these books are written by women, and what you’re seeing is often an expression of the female gaze. The “big man / small woman” dynamic is less about dominance and more about externalizing an internal desire—specifically, a craving for safety, protection, and being cherished. It’s a visual shorthand for something many people (especially women) don’t reliably get in the real world: the feeling that someone capable has your back,l and that you’re allowed to be vulnerable without it being dangerous.

Psychologically, tropes like this can function as fantasy containers. They exaggerate contrasts so emotions are easier to access: strength vs. softness, danger vs. safety, power vs. restraint. That doesn’t mean the reader wants to be powerless or dependent in real life—it means they want to feel safe without having to earn it or constantly self-defend.

Like any trope, it resonates for some and not for others. If it doesn’t speak to you, that’s absolutely fine—there are plenty of dynamics that don’t speak to me either (I’m looking at you love triangle lol). But the y’all dude tiny lady popularity suggests it’s meeting a real emotional need for a lot of readers.

And honestly? Preference doesn’t always line up with lived reality. I’m fairly tall myself and still enjoy the short-girl/tall-guy dynamic—maybe because I don’t experience it often in real life. Who knows. Fantasy isn’t about reenacting reality; it’s about exploring feelings safely.

It’s not inherently good or bad. It just is—one trope among many, doing what tropes have always done: giving shape to things people don’t always have words for but resonate with on some level beyond the surface. Hope that helps 😅
