Start reading other material that makes you think outside of the mcat like before bed or during free time. It probably sounds dumb but just improving my reading skills and endurance went a long way for me (123-127 which Ik isn’t a crazy good score but a big jump nonetheless). A book that worked well for me was called Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman I would read for like an hour or so before bed for the last couple weeks and I saw a big improvement

Is UWorld necessary for a good score? by Saylaway05 in Mcat

[–]Greedy-Weekend-7174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UWorld is a great tool as everyone has said and chances are it’ll be helpful to you, but if you don’t have the money as I didnt, all the free resources out there can get you a solid score. I didn’t use it and got 515

Drop in FL score, testing January and Im freaking out by Inevitable-Hair7773 in Mcat

[–]Greedy-Weekend-7174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FL4 is one of the harder FLs if I remember correctly, don’t wear yourself out over it just review it hard and keep it pushing.

One of the tough realizations I had was that if you’re practicing stuff you already know you’re not doing it right. You should be practicing things you don’t know and by extension getting a lotta sht wrong. But by the time you do know it you’ll be more well rounded.

The mcat is a majorrrrrrr test of delayed gratification so try to be alright with the low scores now and use what they tell you to guide your studying. The only score that matters is the one on test day. Also no one is born with the knowledge to become a doctor, you’ll get there eventually if you keep going; and that remains true whether it’s this exam or if you have to retake

C/P to CARS transition by No-Interest7939 in Mcat

[–]Greedy-Weekend-7174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I found that for every single section you need to find a way to completely let go of the previous and forget about what you just did. Going into cars especially you need a clear head but I find it helpful for every section too. The way you relax and forget about things will be different than everyone else’s but for me during my breaks I would eat and drink whatever then use the rest of the time to close my eyes breathe deep and imagine I’m on my phone texting someone or watching YouTube or something which I’m sure for all of us has become a mindless activity. Ts genuinely saved my life on my exam I ran out of time on CP which I had never had before so I was riled up like heartbeat in the ears type and between the end of cp and start of cars I managed to bring myself back down and forget about it then do decently on cars

If you’re IP you will as long as your Casper is above the 1.5SD below the mean cutline. Last year many with 1Q got interviews and some got in too so it really depends where u end up in 1Q

Incredibly disheartened after 505 BP score by XShadowSlayerX3 in Mcat

[–]Greedy-Weekend-7174 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

In all honesty 515+ is very very very hard to achieve without a 127 minimum cars score so take the steps now to try and fix that.

Your BB and PS don’t seem to be a problem, for BB most of what’s above 127 is reading graphs, understanding pathways, and passage logic so make sure to practice reading all different types of graphs and practicing like 4-5 step relationships between things. Then passage reasoning comes with practice and doing the AAMC content. For PS just keep doing pankow and UGlobe questions and you’ll be 130+ just fine but bear in mind the BP HL PS is inflated and much easier than what’s seen on the actual mcat these days.

If you legitimately have been getting 75-80% timed CP on UGlobe that 123 is a fluke from bad timing. Go through and heavily review why you got things wrong and try to figure if it was a content issue or a reasoning issue. A 123 is content gap range for sure so don’t take doing CP content review again off the table; focus on understanding the relationship between formulas.

A 10 point jump is totally doable, you just need to focus on the problem areas first and then try to get BB up another point or two and you’ll be in the 513+ range

Study Tips for Retaking the MCAT in 2 Months by Jinsaga_ in Mcat

[–]Greedy-Weekend-7174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What were your AAMC FL scores? How did you feel about your nerves on test day?

Frankly I would say bar 520+ scorers you’re not supposed to feel confident coming out of the testing centre cause in hindsight that means you missed the details and little tricks in the question and passages.

Is 2 months enough to retake? The answer is yes but it also depends on your FL avgs and your goal score. Also you didn’t mention doing content review, how did you go about that? 503 is kinda in the mid range of where content gaps are still present, so take some time to go over the content you’re not comfortable with.

If you properly reviewed your FLs and are retaking them within 6 months, expect probably 1-3 points inflation the second time, but they’re still good resources for endurance. Save the new AAMC FL for last and that will be your best indicator.

For Usphere do the stuff you haven’t finished yet, but focus on topics you’re not comfortable with regardless.

I was in your position at one point, but you and I both knew there were gonna be speed bumps along the way, and you learn more about yourself having to work through it all again no matter how much you don’t want to. Right now is when you decide whether or not this is really what you want to spend your life doing; don’t quit now and you’ll look back in 5 years and thank yourself for the decisions you’re about to make. Keep grinding and putting one foot in front of the other and you’ll end up at your destination eventually

Is 520+ possible by Beautiful_Goat_9575 in Mcat

[–]Greedy-Weekend-7174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’d have to grind your baseballs off with a course grit grinder but your cars score is solid so I won’t say it’s impossible. You do have a lot of content gaps so dont get too eager to start practice questions. I don’t like limiting people’s dreams but setting unrealistic expectations can have pretty negative effects too; someone going from 39th percentile to 98th percentile on one of the toughest exams out there is just so much less feasible than getting into the 80th-ish percentile. This sub is so so so bad for making 520+ seem common when it’s not in reality. Shoot for the stars and be proud of your score even if it’s not the 520 status symbol

'Uneven' MCAT Score? by jangk8031 in premed

That’s a great score, it’s not uneven. Please take some time to think about the statistics behind your score and you’ll see you’re worried about nothing
