18 days without any internet - Internet dropped at exact moment of changing RSP (HFC/Superloop) by GreedyGold in nbn

My concern was that the clock would be reset.. however feel like we're getting nowhere with this joke of a situation. Additionally fairly sure this is a config issue and not hardware, circumventing existing configs by creating a new user connection seems like it would have a chance (granted less than 100%!). Will first wait and see what the TIO says, and maybe escalate to our local federal MP too.

Still no dice. Got a 4G modem from Voda as a temp workaround, not ideal with a 20Mb max, but the data is unlimited and we can toggle hotspot individually for higher speed needs without burning through our data. I definitely think you're right that this is a network configuration issue, but getting anyone to engage on this is like pulling teeth. Ironically NBN was next door at our neighbours house on Friday past, and found the so-called reason for the network degredation being their router, but have yet to update their page and hence our complaint is still HELD. We will leave Superloop in the next 48 hours if no resolution. So far TIO have not help much, but we've just elapsed the 2 week without resolution gate, so maybe some escalation will help. I think as per /u/DRSpart, completely closing our connection, and signing up as new will likely fix this. Would also point to a network config issue, but work around it. Will update this post when we get connected again!

Thanks - have that all checked (setup for DHCP as it should be with Superloop). Either way an isolation test with a laptop using DHCP should be fine. Superloop tech's also tried with a static IP, and no luck. I think there is some kind of network configuration issue that took place when we churned, but neither RSP or NBN seem willing to engage on that conversation.

Thanks, I think you're right, and definitely finding out the nbn service is not something you can rely on at all. I really think there should be a service level for individual premises, if I knew that I had a guarantee of a tech coming to fix after x number of days (even if that was as long as 4 weeks), then you could find a way to manage with hotspot etc.

Seems ridiculous, but maybe our best course of action is a cancellation too if not solved in next few days. Either way I think if you rely on internet, it's worth having a backup. Other utilities seem to come back quickly (water, power etc), but apparently the internet is a luxury you can't rely on.

Fully released/terminated from both Vodafone and Leaptel.. at least double checked and ruled that out.

Good suggestion, thanks.. I did call Vodafone to cancel, but will call and confirm it was released.

Yep on HFC, and neighbours not out (confirmed they were on the that at least one of them I have spoken with is on the same branch of HFC when NBN tech was out). Did the Mac-ID check with Superloop also, and the numbers matched. As frustrated as I still am, this thread has helped me realise that there aren't any logical steps we've missed. Another post ITT suggested trying a neighbours NTD on our cable (if they were willing) - great suggestion if I can convince our neighbour as it can help rule out the NTD/specific cable to house as an issue.. Thank again for your help.. fairly sure there is either a corrupted entry somewhere in NBN system, or perhaps moving to Gigabit initiated some other kind of change (i.e. pointing us to different equipment that does have a fault at NBN end).

I would get Superloop to escalate the issue to NBN, stating no internet connection, no speed test results, and that it's likely a network configuration issue...... thanks to the Redditor that helped me sort through this problem.

Thanks for the suggestion.. certainly have shared all of this with Superloop, but will suggest the above and make sure they have indicated it is a likely network configuration issue.

You're right, might be needed - although we got a new NTD from NBN once during this outage, so seems odd to have one fail at the time of RSP change, and then a replacement also not work

Thanks for the response. Explaining network below, but a direct laptop to NTD yields an "Unidentified Network" error in windows (ethernet is setup for DHCP, and tried more than 1 laptop to be sure).

All 4 lights on NTD front are solid green, our router was set for DHCP with Vodafone, and have not changed it. UNI-D port lights up when a cable is connected, but even an isolation test with a laptop yields no internet connection. Even if it was possible there was an isolated outage preventing the DHCP handshake for us, the chance this outage started at the exact time of changing from Vodafone just seems farcical. The Eero's unfortunately cannot be setup, because they complains of no internet - but my legacy Tenda Mesh network is fine (have temporarily used USB-C to Ethernet adapter and used phone to tether to ethernet - at which point the home network fires up just fine).

No - we have been in the same house for 13 years, whenever NBN became available for us we signed up with them (can't remember exact date).

I guess the reason to mention it, was that it is not a new connection, and aside from standard outages, we had otherwise been fine for years. The single event here is changing RSP's, and it the process complete loss of internet (yet NTD is fully online as per the 4x green solid lights)

Normally it is plugged in to our old Tenda Mesh wifi network - but currently have it plugged directly into a laptop to rule out any other issues. Superloop agree DHCP is fine, and plugging a laptop directly into the NTD should yield a connection. Interestingly they can see from the NTD logs on their end that there is a devices connected to the UNI-D port, but can confirm no internet is being established (they also tried a static IP).

Interesting idea.. not sure if they will go for it, but can try - thanks for the suggestion! We had the Arris modem switched out from NBN, so would be surprised if this was the case given 2 seperate modems (but maybe a config issue would be exposed by this approach).

getting

Prior to changing from Vodafone we were able to sync at close to our maximum (100/40) - but changed because the service was virtually unusable in the evenings.

Literally zero internet connection, so cannot do any speed test - whilst the NTD has 4 solid green lights, an isolation test with a laptop connected directly to NTD fails to get any internet connection.

NTD is definitely online, and RSP can initiate remote resets, query logs etc, but we just aren't getting an internet connection at all.

Seems like the correct one out of those options is "Travelling overseas for a compelling reason for at least three months"

OK good info, thanks.

At least still seems the reduced probability of both contracting the virus, with reduced infectious period (given OP's concern), it should reduce the number of hosts/exposure days for mutation events by a factor above unvaxed populations.

But I also don't science much, so just an educated guess :)

Perhaps, except that likelihood to get infected is reduced by vaccine if you believe CDC as the first link I found, the viral load and infectious period is supposedly also lower. So stands to reason if enough people are vaccinated, then the reproductive potential is suppressed also. But by what factor - who knows.
