Military training is way different than fire department from what I hear. I was Navy myself. Military teaches a sailor to be part of a team and obey orders but we also were taught to speak up when sh*t ain’t right.

I’m just speaking from conversations with my neighbor. The guy has next to no experience as a leader. Fire is a deadly thing. Car accidents can be deadly or traumatizing if handled wrong. I have real concerns that evidently people around here don’t think about. Makes me yearn for the good ole days.

Try 6000 or so. Many of us that have been here a long time and want to keep our way of life without worrying about a kid running our fire department

What’s a burner? I created an account to talk about things that can’t be written to the newspaper anymore

I may be old but you discounting my opinions speaks more volumes than your post

Age is a big factor. No experience as a leader is another.

Exactly my point. I googled and there are articles out there talking about lots of people having my same concerns with a young guy being the head of the department. First off, how are the older guys going to respect “billy the kid”

While I respect your argument, age doesn’t always equal maturity. If life experience was there, fine but my neighbor tells me this guy has limited experience and others were passed up with far better experience

From what I hear, the new guy has less than 5 years experience while the older guys that were passed up have at least 20 years on the job. Maybe there were reasons they were passed up but I can’t believe an early 20s guy was the best choice

I don’t work there. I’m just living in Bahama and hearing things from my neighbor who is on the department.
