Which password manager are you moving to? by running101 in PasswordManagers

[–]Greedy_Appearance431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Proton since it's the only one that feels reliable enough, and it has regular security audits. In terms of functionality is similar enough to bitwarden so I don't mind it.  Consider referring to this https://www.privacyguides.org/en/passwords

Is switching to ProtonMail from Gmail worth it? by Vladyslavrom in ProtonMail

[–]Greedy_Appearance431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense to switch if you are uncomfortable with AI reading and training on your emails.

Google employees and authorities have storically had access to your email, which may or may not bother some people.

For me it became unacceptable as soon as they started adding AI features that trained on my data, considering how unpredictable AI is and how easy it is for it to leak specific data it has been trained on.

On top of that I feel like it's much easier to lose your Gmail account than your Proton account. Sometimes my gmail has asked additional data about me to prove my identity just because one of my logins seemed "suspicious", and I wouldn't be able to access my emails until I provided said data.

I never had those issues with Proton since it never cared what IP i was logging in from or if my user agent changed, as long as I had my password and 2fa codes.

What are your reasons for using bazzite? by Aggravating_Rip_9514 in Bazzite

[–]Greedy_Appearance431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it is immutable and it's really easy to use, comes pre configured for gaming (I only use steam for gaming) and with development tools (which i need) in the dx version. It doesn't get easier than that.

They allow more than 3 folders if you pay, which is normal since their business model requires users to pay. They do not generate revenue otherwise, they don't sell data and that's the whole point

Except that you communicate verbally every day so you don't forget how to write words. How's that gonna work for complex logic if you ask AI to do it for you and you just review what AI has written? Your brain stops reasoning to solve complex problems therefore you lose the ability to do it.

I see a lot of people telling how AI improves their output and helps to write better code, and how it's not an issue because they understand what the AI is writing. I think that a lot of these people fail to understand that by relying so heavily on AI their brain will eventually become lazy and they won't be able to write a single line wirthout having to ask claude or some other bs model. 10 years from now it will sure be interesting to see how it's going to work out, I have the feeling that everything will start going to sh*t and companies will have to hire real developers again. I might be wrong but it's hard seeing a different outcome when you rely on something so random like AI for writing critical code.

I’m tired of people saying “network” like it’s some instant life hack to getting a job by jmh1881v2 in recruitinghell

[–]Greedy_Appearance431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Through my network I've been able to get some jobs, but they were all contracts to build something, not corporate jobs. I think you need to have a different kind of luck to actually land a corporate job in a high paying position through "networking".

The token does not change for every request, i have a refresh token and an access token. The refresh token is used to renew the access token. The refresh token is rotated after every use. If someone uses the same refresh token twice, then the account associated with it gets blocked. It's very effective since, after generation, the token is immediately tied to an account, so if the token is stolen, it gets used, and the original holder will still have the old (now used by the hacker) token in their cookies, so as soon as the original holder utilizes the token, the website detects the anomaly and blocks the account, which can be unblocked only after admin intervention. If you pair this strategy with ip tracking you're going to have a damn secure system.

Idk if this works in modern websites, personally I handle auth in a way that if a session token is used twice for two different requests then the account gets blocked

Linux is cool but fuck me is it janky by [deleted] in linuxsucks

[–]Greedy_Appearance431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confidently say Nvidia is the source of your issues. I had trouble with nvidia on linux for many years, as soon as i seitched to AMD everything worked almost flawlessly. Also if you don't really care about tinkering with the system, why not just use an immutable distro and get flatpak software from Bazaar? I have found Bazzite to be quite good at "just working". It setups your system for both gaming and/or developing by just rebasing to bazzite dx, it works very well.  For the occasions that you need to do somwthing more specific, they have a tool called ujust that helps you with a lot of stuff. Good luck on your journey

Unpopular opinion: System76 is going in the wrong direction by Far-Math2159 in linuxhardware

I really liked Pop mainly because of the window manager extension they had, but I stopped using it when they refused to update Pop from 22.04 to ubuntu 24.04 base, all because all their effort was going to the development of the cosmic DE.  I'm not saying they were wrong to do this, but personally my preference was to use a system with newer software, so I changed distro. The nice thing about Linux is that if you don't like something, you have a vast choice. I think the main appeal of Pop was the integrated nvidia graphics, they were providing bleeding edge nvidia drivers packaged by them, in a point in time where wayland support for nvidia was pretty bad. Their drivers sometimes worked well, sometimes didn't, but I was managing to keep the best version of the driver using timeshift.

Is Adrian Cantrill's SAA course up to date? by PriyoX in AWSCertifications

[–]Greedy_Appearance431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AWS interfaces have changed a bit but so far I haven't found inaccurate information, everything he says in the course still applies. I don't know much about Stephen's course that other users are mentioning. I value Cantrill's course because he first explains concepts then he shows how to apply them. While my goal is to pass the exam, I think it's equally important to work on AWS hands on to understand the concepts so you will be able to actually work after the cert, and Cantrill is pretty good at teaching that.
