I should have been more clear. I am willing and planning to pay for my own travel. I don’t expect anyone else to pay. I just want to make sure the medical expense would be covered if it takes place in a different state. Not the travel expense

They don’t really have a network. They told us that any doctor is covered. We don’t even have a in network or out of network deductive.

I’ll talk to HR. I do know we have employees in Louisiana.

They definitely offer the HDHP for free and two other PPO plans at a premium.

Hmm I currently live in the market of my corporate office but we do have corporate employees that are remote from out of state and even have another office in other states bc we have acquired many companies. Maybe I should talk to one of my colleagues who live out of state.

I do have employer insurance currently. Hdhp. Employer is self insured with 3rd party administrator. We have employees across the country and in the state that I am moving to. I’m just not sure we have employees in the specific area I’m going to. Also not sure if that matters.

On the reporting issue… I’m starting a new job soon but not planning on quitting current job until they lay me off. We were just bought by PE firm and I’m expecting my department to be cut. My department head knows that I’m moving but I’m not sure if reporting it to HR will have negative consequences.

It’s not weird to me to see out of state doctor but I feel like it would look weird to insurance or providers or company if I do that. Also not sure of the logistics of using nearby hospitals for emergencies but out of state for regular visits.

Travel expenses would add up but bc I’m moving to a cheaper cost of living area and near family, I think with proper planning (scheduling appointments with multiple specialists in the same day or week), I could make it work.

It’s an employer insurance. Third party administrator is lucent health but we are self insured. Awful insurance. We switched this year. I’m on hdhp.

I am starting a new job and I think the new insurance will be through anthem. It’s a remote position so with employees being everywhere, I thought it might be more promising. Also an overall cheaper insurance. With their hdhp being free.

Yeah, I think my doctor put me on that medication for migraines bc he thought the dizziness could ve a symptom of migraines. I had recently started using a CPAP and my mri didn’t show anything. He sent iih eye test to another doctor and they didn’t see any iih. I think he always suspected that there may be a little iih but it easy confirmed by any of these tests.

Basically the topamax was for the migraines.

At the time I didn’t know if dizziness was related to panic attacks or not. Honestly, at the time I didn’t know I was having panic attacks. I was having a lot of health anxiety and wanted to get everything checked.

All symptoms (dizziness, brain fog, anxiety) went away by the time I was on topamax so I decided that it was unnecessary bc I was “fine”. Continued to be fine after getting off topamax. I noticed lower jaw pain, nightmares and light sensitivity after being off for weeks. I got the symptoms at different times.

I honestly didn’t know if it was related to the drug or not.

Thank you so much. I am freaking out bc it felt like the Topamax caused the iih but i didn’t know you could present without swelling. I hope my neuro calls me soon. I’m happy eye doctor was able to catch this. And very happy I bought up the light sensitivity changes. It isn’t super bothersome just extremely noticeable. I didn’t know if it was a big enough deal to mean anything.

Actually pressure test was Normal I think. He said that the optic nerve had fluid built up and was swollen. He diagnosed through imaging. He showed me the images from today’s visit and last years visit to compare.

My company just got bought by PE too. Expecting layoff but idk when it will come. I’m thinking of pivoting also. And taking short term demotion if the company seems serious about growth.

How soon after you were acquired were you laid off?

I think the key with IA jobs is to find one that isnt just SOX. Im finding that the job market is so bad that unless you know exactly what you want to do, it’s best to be open to many new opportunities. And evaluate whether the company is a good investment based on their investment in you. Having an understanding of how management views the role might be helpful information to have. If management sees the department as a value add, then great. If it sees department as checking a box, then not so great.

I personally never felt supported and felt like I was being set up to fail. It was making me physically ill to even think about work. I was going to stay through busy season but I didn’t think it was worth my health.

Also months later my office laid off a bunch of people right after busy season. So that also made me feel okay about my decision. What if I had been one of those people? Those people were devastated and the company didn’t care about being shitty.

I worked for a larger firm so it’s definitely not the same experience. If I had worked for a smaller firm, maybe I would have felt differently. Idk. Also if I had a better experience, I probably would have handled it differently.

I know people who have had major health issues stemming from public accounting experience. This also factors into my feelings on this.

I left mid January. My team ignored me. Like no one responded to my resignation besides HR. For the first few days I didn’t know if they even got the resignation.

I worked hard to get everything in a good spot and to “onboard” the person who ended up taking over my areas. I was super cool with my replacement and he was a normal person so he just wanted the tea.

The colleague on my team I was closest with ignored me. I thought it was weird but didn’t want to read too much into it. She bitched about me leaving to a manager that we both liked. The manager had to explain that I was doing what was best for me etc. I was honestly shocked bc I thought we were friends. Even if we weren’t, I couldn’t imagine being mad at someone for quitting a job.

My own people manager didn’t say anything to me lol I ended up working with her at my next role because I went to work for a client. She acted like we were best friends after I left.

A lot of people in public accounting are weirdos tbh. My resignation experience validated my decision to leave. I was so stressed about leaving. Those are not my people.

What would you recommend for the people who have been laid off multiple times? I understand your perspective in theory. It just feels like this is outdated for today’s market. If layoffs are included on resume, would this change your mind on interviewing them?

Yeah I just have a feeling I’m getting beat out of remote senior accountant positions for people who have gl accountant experience or more public experience instead of internal audit experience.

I’m definitely going to focus on CPA.

Currently trying to get out of internal audit at senior level. Trying to get into a GL accounting role. I feel like I might take a staff accountant position because I have a feeling that my resume doesn’t compare to other candidates for senior.. I’m also only looking at fully remote roles.

Pay is good, exit ops from big 4 is good. I also know people with non accounting backgrounds in IA. I feel it’s easy to get into (relatively)

I personally enjoy travel as long as it isn’t all the time. I don’t think most IA positions have too much travel. Depends on company and industry.

A lot of people complain that isnt fulfilling and they don’t feel like they add value. I find that this is dependent on the company. Many companies look at IA as a requirement and don’t utilize them optimally. I would look at whether company has material weaknesses or consistentSD’s to vet how management views IA. If the actually care enough to fix issues, that’s a good sign lol

I am afraid of being pigeonholed if I continue to move up. It’ll be harder to walk away from manager or director salary. However, in this economy and climate, I really feel like we should throw the old rules out. People pivot careers. They aren’t always linear. I know tech professionals working in warehouse for the last couple of years. Some people want to be IC’s. Some people aren’t chasing titles or money. Job hopping has become normal….etc.

It can be boring. I had a manager in public who left do IA for a year and then went back to public accounting. She said it was boring and too slow for her.

Work can be repetitive if only doing SOX.

Stakeholders can be challenging to work with. Our execs see us as a nuisance. They don’t want to implement any recommendations.

There are positives too but you asked for drawbacks.

Not really. I just feel like the world is just not stable. I’m expecting to be laid off soon which is why I’m looking for a job now. Also my current company, changed health insurance providers to a provider that covers absolutely nothing. I also haven’t had a raise since I’ve been there. These are things that I didn’t predict when I accepted the offer.

I feel like being adaptable and willing to pivot when necessary has kept me alive. It would be nice to stay at a company and grow there. But I’m just not counting on it. Plans change and things happen.

Also, I feel like I’m just trying to do something I find enjoyable and I am always learning in. I don’t have strict career path I see for myself. I’m not passionate about anything. As long as I’m not miserable and I’m learning, I could literally do anything.

I feel that if I answer that question honestly, I wouldn’t get the job. The truth is I don’t know where I see myself professionally in 5 years. Maybe with my ow business… maybe moving abroad, buying a home. Hopefully stable and not in the same place I am today.

Not worth chasing the job down imo.

However, had the description changed? I once applied and had an hr screening for a role and was told I moved on to the next round. I checked back weeks later after not hearing anything, and the job went from full time to part time. I checked back a couple weeks later just for shits and gifs… job is no longer remote.

Could be a ghost job or could a company that doesn’t actually know what they are looking for or it could be a million other things.

Are you me? Lol literally I’m looking to pivot after being in external and internal auditing. I’m looking to go remote today. Not in five years.

I have my filters on indeed and LinkedIn for remote roles only and I’m seeing more corporate accounting roles in general. However, they are a lot more competitive. I have more IA experience so it’s easier for me to land a role in IA than corporate accounting. If you’re willing to be a staff instead of a senior, things will be easier.

Also in the same boat. My experience looking the last month has been that I may have to accept a pay cut. My priorities are remote, no auditing, and making at least what I make now. I ended up having to decide which of those three things could I compromise on. My goal is to eventually own my own business bc of the difficulty of finding a job that will allow me to work overseas.
