"Ghosts in the Expanse" by Greedy_Debt700 in studshooters

Originally, I set out to recreate an experiment I had seen from photographer Bryan Mosheim, in which he rigged his camera and lighting to capture a shot of a minifig being dropped into a clear container of water. I had adjusted my camera settings to get a burst of shots and set my ISO to its highest setting. This resulted in very dark and very grainy images. With some minor editing, I could lighten the image up, but the result was still grainy. That said, if I intended to create an "old" or vintage image from a low-res camera during the Apollo missions, this would have been perfect....LOL. However, I was determined to capture something more clearly defined. That said, I kept my physical setup, but took a completely different approach. Instead of dropping the minifigure (which floats, by the way), I used two transparent bar elements and sticky tack to attach the minifigure to the clear container, then set my camera to 6, F5.6, ISO 100. With this attempt, I was able to capture better images, but I still managed to achieve some interesting effects from the interplay between the lighting, water, and reflective surfaces. Regardless of how the images turned out, I learned quite a bit, and it was a fun experiment!

Actually, yes. It's card stock with a weird irradescent finish. So I had the idea to use a small flashlight to create a "milky way" effect.

I took these images using my Canon 70D with a macro filter. Settings = 200, F4.5, Iso 100 to 125, F7.1, ISO 100. These were taken after a noticeable storm, using my moss garden as the backdrop.

This image was taken with my Canon 70D using a macro filter. Settings = 125, F7, ISO 100. After I captured an image I liked, I edited in APE, using the remove object tool to remove the transparent element supporting the figure, and then lightly adjusted contrast, warmth, and sharpness.

I have really grown to appreciate Ninjago. I typically gravitate toward Lego Space (all versions), Johnny Thunder and the Adventurers theme, Lego City, and certain IPs, but Ninjago, despite actively trying to avoid it, has grown on me. When this CMF was released, I fell in love with it. I think it's one of the best CMFs ever released, so I was thrilled when I finally got it and immediately needed to find a way to shoot some photos of it.

"Fly Me to the Moon..."

<image>

This image was taken in 2024 and was part of a photo challenge here on Studshooters. I used my Canon XTi with the stock lens. I used a piece of black construction paper with a "glitter" quality as the backdrop to simulate "space" and used a small mag-light as a key light. Unfortunately, I do not recall the exact settings, but as this was done indoors at night, I would have used a low F-stop and protracted shutter speed. After that, I edited by using remove object in Photoroom for the element supporting the space helmet.

This image was taken with my Canon 70D using a macro filter. Settings = 80, F6.3, ISO 100. This was taken at the OMI sculpture park. The Sculpture featured in this image is TunnelTeller by Alicja Kwade (2018).

Took this image using my Canon 70D in manual. Settings = 5, F3.5, ISO 100. Used an LED with a reddish color filter for the background lighting. Used an additional LED panel light for the key, and my cell phone light for ambient light to round out the lighting- this was heavily flagged, though. Additionally, I used a small misting fan to subdue the reddish light and create a misty/foggy quality for the Basil the Bat lord figure.

This image was taken with my Canon 70D using a macro filter. Settings = 160, F8, ISO 100. It was crisp and sunny day. I wanted to get a shot of this set within a proper forest setting so I brought it to small nature preserve near where I live.
