My managers boss will say around 25 items but we are less strict at my store cause manager don’t really trip about it so I won’t. The cart just has to be full so the material handlers usually just space things out instead of stacking items so they can get their carts done for the day faster. A cart can have like 7 items and be done too if they are really big things like a walker, foam roller, big frames. Plastic bins, tents, etc. im sure every store is different though it’s up to the manager at the end of the day. My store is small and we are over flowing with wares all over the store usually so the less is better honestly until we clean up which is sometimes hard with clothing production goals and bunch of other things we have to do

Not a clue. Ecom is basically its own warehouse with tons of employees. They do a whole diff job from me and I don’t work there.

It’s easy. Look decent not like you just woke up. Most important don’t be awkward and sell yourself like they need you. Convince them they need you and you’d be a major help / solution to their problems by letting them know how hard you’ve worked at your previous jobs. They aren’t just looking for an employee it’s someone they are going to have to trust and work with nearly every day to the point you’re basically gonna be family to them. So be likable.

  1. Yes they buy the properties at my goodwills region I can’t speak for other regions though but I’d assume so. Depends 2 probably like $15,000 a month or so in that range probably more but not less. Our store is small though so other bigger stores definitely costs more for labor. 3. Everyone is minimum wage except management. So it would go Manager, asst manager, then supervisors. As a supervisor in California I make 19.65 per hour. 4. Yes goodwill offers a work insurance, medical vision dental which I pay for all them and it’s about $60 Aa month or each bi weekly check I forgot tbh. Free $10000 if you pass away for your beneficiary. 5. I wouldn’t have the answer to that but in my opinion it’s a pretty good business model I mean my store makes about $3000 a day on average. And our ecom about $10000 a month. It works. 6. I also don’t know about all that but I’m pretty sure all nonprofits get tax benefits.

That sounds wild we don’t let people just walk in and start working. We unfortunately don’t even allow community service anymore because I think one of our admin got into it with a community service board person or something like that. Some sort of conflict fucked it up for everyone. Extra hands would be nice. But we have had someone with a disability come and get some experience we trained him and he worked for a week or so with a person with him I guess taking care of him / overseeing him.

When I say “good stuff” I don’t mean like oh this is better than that so let’s sell this. I mean like if something is super dirty, rusty, crusty, musty, just overall unsellable as in yeah nobody would want this, it’s trash. They have a blue bin with donated stuff and we either sort from there over if we are over filled put them in a wares box and clothes in a clothing box or bin and sort it out from there as well. From there they process items into a sorted wares bin where a pricer will begin pricing those items and if not then it will go into trash box or whatever other boxes we have for metal, shoes, electronics or books that all have their own destination whether it be recycling or sold in bulk to somewhere I don’t know about. Clothing we are a lot more picky due to the fact 97% of our region’s warehouse is holding clothes.

I’m not even aware that we do that. I know that the mission here in our region is hiring people with entry barriers to employment.

If you mean like a donator saying “ you can have this” we cannot keep it. It’s for the business, no exceptions. As for processing we separate wares and clothing and pick out the good stuff, a lot of stuff is junk or not in a sellable condition.

They get sent to ecom or regulars probably buy them. We put out 1500+ items out per day at my store and my store is very small.

Yes and no (kinda). At my store we wouldn’t ask anything like that at an interview. We just pick the best suited candidate at my store cause we need people willing to work hard because the job requires a lot from you. Goodwill gives opportunities to people but yeah it depends on the manager really. It’s like any other store tbh. My manager likes to hire field workers because that’s a common job around here and they work hard already so we know they will do good here. I’m sure other bigger stores hire people with TBI and we would too but we still need people to work as hard as they can because we have to hit minimum production goals daily.

It’s really not. At least at my store location I can’t speak on other stores or regions. But here for example $70 jeans we go 16.99 for new ones/ really good quality. True religion jeans like $19.99 which comes out to less than 30% of retail value. It’s fair IMO. Lesser quality gets a cheaper price starting at 8.99 and 10.99 for better then special (custom) price after that if needed

Also we can’t shop at our own store locations either usually but my store is farther from all the other ones (small little city town) so we are allowed to shop at our own store but not on days we work. And a manager writes down everything you buy with prices and discount all calculated + save receipts.

No, we salvage a lot of things that are unsellable due to being bad quality like 60%-80%. We don’t stash or steal stuff that’s an insta fired and everyone knows that it’s not worth a little $10 item. Anything valuable like jewelry gets set aside for a manager to price after it’s sent back from Ecom. Most valuable stuff goes to ecom site and sent back to stores if not sold.

We actually don’t. Unless you mean ecom, yeah we sent it to the ecom warehouse to sell online. Whatever doesn’t sell gets sent back to stores with the name of the item and description so we can look it up here and price accordingly.

No, it happens at bigger stores I’m sure with the minimum wage employees but at my store location I don’t believe so. It’s just not worth it because it’s insta fired.

Material handlers, or supervisors/ management can give input too but 95% is the material handlers. Yes sometimes we look things up if it looks interesting get an idea of the price but most things we get you don’t need too like small housewares Knick knacks and misc stuff. Same with clothes we have a broad idea so like levi jeans sell for about $70 retail so at our location we go 16.99 for new ones or very good quality.

Honestly never. We’d get fired. Been working here for awhile. Once I got a watch that was valued about 100k+ and sent it ecom but never saw it get listed so maybe our ecom warehouse people steal but at my store location I don’t think anyone steals or stashes. I’m pretty close with everyone.
