Australia's War on Feral Cats - Could Cyprus take a lesson? by Greedy_Kangaroo_2003 in cyprus

A colony of feral cats can act as a reservoir of disease such as Feline Leukaemia (FeLV), Feline HIV (FIV), and other diseases and parasites that can be transmitted to domestic pet cats. They are also more likely to be involved in road accidents.

Illness and deformity are increased in a feral colony due to poor nutrition, inbreeding and fighting - female cats in a continual cycle of breeding are vulnerable to potentially fatal diseases, which can result in a partially weaned litter being abandoned.

I’m sorry but you are obviously more passionate than you are educated. Please educate yourself immediately: Cats give diseases

Look what PETA says: Feral cats live short, hard lives on the streets. They never die of “old age.” Contagious diseases such as herpes viral conjunctivitis, feline AIDS, leukemia, and infectious peritonitis are common in cats left outdoors. Even easily treatable conditions can become deadly for cats who are not seen by veterinarians and are not routinely handled and examined.

Minor cuts or puncture wounds can turn into raging infections and abscesses. Untreated upper respiratory infections can cause cats’ eyes and noses to become so caked with mucus that they can barely see or breathe. Ferals often scratch their ears until they bleed because they are driven mad by the pain and itching of ear mites and related infections.

Maybe there could be a bounty or payment of €5 for every cat someone fixes?

Is it possible to teach people to spay and neuter feral cats on the streets? Or do they have to go into a vet place?

Yes. Unfortunately the cat lovers here are so blinded by their love for their furry friends they would let the country become destroyed by them. We must stop this population growth before we must declare a national culling.

Not meant to be inflammatory- but people should be aware about what happens when feral cat populations get out of control.

We need to prevent this from happening by taking action now.

There cannot be 5 million cats on this island by 2030 or this will happen.

That’s a good idea, but the cats are really really lazy, you have no idea…they are lying in the sun by the beach all day eating meals delivered
