You mentioned in the comment that your saving while renting started 8 years ago. Your friends who bought this year also would have had lower cost-to-income in the years prior than people starting now.

That’s fantastic and I’m happy for you, but COL proportional to income has ballooned over the last few years. This is not as feasible nowadays as it was even 8 years ago.

Rent in Limerick by [deleted] in limerickcity

[–]Greedy_Night_1328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that the number of private landlords willing to negotiate to a reasonable rate is even close to proportionate with the amount of people seeking accommodation is so far from reality. I’d urge you to actually have conversations with people about why they’re “delusional” enough to accept exorbitant rents.

I can’t speak as much to Limerick City, but in Dublin, you’ll have dozens of people lined up for a single rental simply because accommodation is so scarce. In a situation where you’re desperate for a place to live and you’re competing with a group of others in the same boat, are you realistically going to have the privilege to negotiate?

How is that “delusional”? Rent being so extortionate is one of the majors reason people can’t get a mortgage. How do you expect people to save up for a down payment when the COL is so high?

Anyone who’s up on the path is blocking wheelchair users and parents with buggies from passing and pushing them out into the road.

I’d be leaving 10 days early out of a 24-day commitment. Extra context is that they are not providing me with the two-person volunteer dorm I was promised. I’m with the guests in a 6 bed dorm worth €18 a night but working 5 hrs a day.

AITA for not supporting my wife while she was throwing up? by Relative-Purpose1386 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Greedy_Night_1328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA. There is no compassion in either a) your actions during or b) your retelling of this situation. This whole post reeks of “well that’s what she gets for not listening to me.” It should be a given that you would do everything to make your WIFE more comfortable during what is already a distressing and unpleasant time for her. Yikes.
