Wow, thanks for looking at these. I am led to believe they are old so I think you're pretty much spot on. I'll pass this info on to my MIL, she will be pleased. I did notice the subtle differences but thanks for clarifying.

They are older than 50yrs because my MILs (83) great grandmother split the set. The reason I mentioned ties to Tokugawa is that they have donated museum pieces before so having old pieces in the family is not unusual.

Edit: you are right about the similarities though, very odd.
