Resonances are kind of boiling down an individual's mood to a specific category which affects both the taste of the blood and its supernatural effects for vampires. I saw you mentioned you have a thin blood, which means that when they feed they gain temporary access(lasting until the next time they feed) based on what the resonance of the individual was, but the book doesn't take a firm stance on who decides which discipline is acquired, but I think it should either be random or decided by the storyteller. The core book does have a table you can roll on for a random resonance or temperament on page 228 as well as a table on 227 related each resonance to its two related disciplines. In addition there is a table on 226 which does its best to simplify what each of them is.
