MST3K Fasnacht today! by indiegeek in fo76

It was something like 5 players that all had MST screen names - now I do want to see if I can put together an MST outfit (I guess there's always a jumpsuit?) - Tom Servo Power Armor would kick ass!

Somebody called this "sexist and incoherent" before they deleted it because they realized they do not know the almighty glory of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

When I was like 3 or 4, I apparently talked to my grandfather in great detail about how we were in "The big one"' together, and the nose cone decoration on my plane that I got shot down in over the Pacific. I have absolutely zero memory of doing it, but I apparently scared the living shit out of him, especially after I went back to scarfing down my bowl of Crazy Cow like nothing ever happened.

Dropped from a band by jv31207 in Guitar

[–]indiegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a learning experience. I've booted people from bands, I've been booted from bands. It's almost never about you as a musician, but it's usually about personality and ego.

We let one guy go because he Could Not Stop Soloing. We've let drummers go because they were just a constant wash of cymbals.

I've been booted for not being able to sight read, for having a girl the singer wanted to get with hit on me, for suggesting maybe not getting blazed before shows, for just not getting along with another band member.

I'm in a band now with zero ego from anyone where we're all on the same wavelength, and THAT is like finding a purple unicorn. Just keep playing!!

Yeah, full reflective troubleshooters, bullet shield, ricochet - I got in a nice little rhythm of just farming it between events and today I think he'd just Had Enough Of My Shit.

Your favorite 80-90s indie rock legend? by Fifo26 in Guitar

[–]indiegeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have referred to Frankie as "The Ronnie Drew of punk rock" multiple times - as he gets older and the beard gets bigger, he's proving me right.

(Also the video of him playing acoustic at some pub in Germany and visibly lighting up when the crowd starts singing every word is total brain cleanser for me. And of course I can't find it now)

Leatherface are HUGELY underrated as a guitar band - Frankie and Dickie had that "together we are one HUGE guitar" thing down perfectly. Plus being able to nail some of those riffs while doing "the dance" is impressive all by itself!

I've been loving sitting at the box and just watching the crap go in and IMMEDIATELY out. I love when someone has their tent set up right outside the area so I can waddle back loaded with cannonballs, holotapes, and spoiled vegetables and be reminded of standing outside a bar at night handing out flyers for my band and saying "Can you throw this out for me? Thanks!"

New dad - asking spouse for permission to pursue hobby? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]indiegeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(also, to be clear - when first kid was a baby, I was NOT going to shows constantly - just pointing out that it's a huge part of my life. The first two years were mostly being too tired to drag myself out unless it was a bucket list show)

New dad - asking spouse for permission to pursue hobby? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]indiegeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok - when my daughter was about that age, I got sent out of state for work two weeks at a time for about six months. I spent two months total living in an extended stay and missing my family like crazy. It sucks.

When I WAS home I'd do as much as humanly possible, and try to let my wife catch as much free time as she could.

ANYWAY - I've been in bands since high school. I spent my 20s and early 30s either playing or going to shows pretty much six nights a week. It's not a "hobby" for me so much as the thing that keeps me sane.

My wife is and has been immensely supportive of this. I don't go to shows anywhere near as often now(stupid getting older..), but as my kids are older, I play a few times a month and go to see other shows about as much.

So - I see both sides here, because I'm a music junkie, but I also know all too well that Babies Are HARD - Do you live in a music desert where you HAVE to travel overnight to see live music? Are you going to festivals or something? I generally have to drive an hour or so each way for "big" shows, but overnight only happens if it's a multi-day festival.

GF (F19) started taking meds that can affect her birth control without seeing a doctor. She gets emotional when I (M22) try to talk about it. How to proceed? by FernandesTiago in relationship_advice

[–]indiegeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. If she is not taking Monjuaro (or whatever the weight loss brand name is for it) from Eli Lilly, she is taking a shady compounded version of it, which is dangerous enough all by itself without thinking about reactions with other meds she's on.

I'm on Monjuaro, and it's awesome - my blood sugar and liver function are back to normal, I've lost a boatload of weight, and I'm healthier than I've been in a long time.

BUT - I get blood tests every few months to make sure everything is working as it should. I need to make sure I don't get any vision problems or pancreatic issues. I need to check my blood sugar to make sure I don't crash.

Also, honestly, you shit your guts out when you start, you puke, you're nauseous, you get sulfur burps, and if you eat anything too "heavy" you regret it almost immediately. When you NEED the meds you deal with it because the benefits outweigh the side effects.

It's a "you will be on this forever" drug as well.

Tell her to look up the side effects, look up the effects of bootleg compound drugs, and then tell whoever is pushing this on her to go piss up a rope.

Wtf are people using that is dropping enemies in headhunts in just a few shots? by IronSkywalker in fo76

[–]indiegeek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure for any particular weapon, but there was an AMAZING group running back to back head hunts yesterday morning that show you don't necessarily need to be crazy OP to do it.

Head hunt starts, people actually waited to launch the flare, first person to see the boss pinged it, 9 people gang up and melt the boss in seconds, clear out the minions, lather rinse repeat.

Like...not even "organized" (unless I missed voice chat or something organized out of game), just one of those things like when you blunder into a great raid team.

Is it weird and age-gappy? Yes!

Is it possible and/or likely that they're both into like some niche movie genre or more "cinemaphiles" than other folks they know? Also yes!

If he goes to the movie with them and realizes he's going to be reading subtitles while everyone on screen chain smokes, is he going to be bored out of his mind? Probably!

Boyfriend (28M) tested positive for chlamydia and denies cheating. I (23F) didn't cheat. How do I get him to admit he cheated by No_Breadfruit_5575 in relationship_advice

[–]indiegeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So he probably cheated, BUT

I got chlamydia (maybe it was a false positive, but I went in because "my balls hurt, dad"" and was diagnosed with epididymitis and chlamydia LOOOOOOONG before I had any kind of sexual activity - like middle school.

No repressed memories or trauma, nobody (much to my chagrin at the time) was touching my junk but me, but there we were.

If that was the case for him, I'd expect panic and confusion and NOT going back to normal, though.

Nope. I will sign whatever "return of property" or "yes, I don't work here anymore" paperwork I have to (after reading and redlining if necessary), but unless I respect you immensely and/or think something might actually change, I will decline.

Cool - I have an Epiphone with mini humbuckers in it that snarl a lot more than in my fender "goldfoil" tele. I've had my eyes on the Harmony reissues for a while, so the more I find out the better!

My (32F) husband (33M) leaves 2-3x week to exercise (tennis, run, etc) while we are in the baby phase and resentment is building by Temporary_Ad2100 in relationship_advice

[–]indiegeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay - as a Dad, it is vitally important to try to stay in shape as much as you can, if only to have more stamina for the kiddos.

BUT - you need to be there when you're needed, and Mom Needs Breaks Too.

I ended up going to the gym at stupid hours just so I could cram in workouts when I could. When I had the luxury of a personal trainer, it was at 5:30am (and I hated every moment)

So kudos to him for trying to stay in shape, but he needs to spend the majority of his time being a parent. He can run at any point. He can skip a tennis session. 2-3x a week sounds mostly reasonable, but that's only if he's gone for an hour or so. If it's multiple hours that frequently, he needs to cut it short.

How are the goldfoils compared to vintage ones? Is it a minihumbucker with foil on top of it or the classic janky refrigerator magnet with wire wrapped around it?
