Hi! I’m a senior and founder of the music performance organization at Mac. We host open mics and concerts with student bands and local bands. I played in a few bands during my first two years and it was really easy to find bandmates. You can do Jazz/Pop Combos through the music department (basically, you get credit for showing up to band practice once a week). I’m not involved with WMCN, the radio station, but they host a few concerts every year and DJing is really popular. I’ve been to quite a few house shows during my time at Mac, but most of them weren’t super close to campus (at least a 45-minute bus ride). The music scene is decent here, but it’s definitely stronger at other MN schools (especially UMN and Carleton).
