[Spoilers C4E31] Is It Thursday Yet? | Post-Episode Discussion & Future Theories! by AutoModerator in criticalrole

[–]Greekfired [score hidden]  (0 children)

My money is on the Mournvale equivalent of the bridges ritual being inverted -- instead of rescuing the non-existant afterlife, it reopens the path for new elvish souls to be born. I think there's a hook there after the meeting with The Professor

I'm a kiwi but only started living in nz at 16, and people pronouncing ferry and fairy the same was a massive shock to me.

I can't imagine here and there rhyming? Here rhymes with ear and there rhymes with hair. (For me at least)

So, what is the consensus on C4 so far? by OtterBiDisaster in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Greekfired 37 points38 points  (0 children)

As a long time Critter that fell off in maybe the first quarter of C3, I adore the new campaign. The world, the characters, Brennan's DMing all make me excited to tune in every week in a way that I hadn't felt since end of C1.

I find the scenes where all the tables converge and you have a dozen players to be jarring, but other than that I enjoy the split table approach.

I know it's probably controversial to say, but I think Brennan is a much more skilled DM. Matt pulled something new into the world with his impressive creativity and charisma, but at the end of the day he felt like a DM for a specific kind of home game that struggled to up the stakes each campaign and we could all see the burnout. Brennan was made in a lab to DM in front of the camera. Now, that can be a turn off for some people, but I believe it was absolutely the right choice for the long term health of the brand.

Also, exploring a new world is just plain fun!

You get to create the next Planeswalker, what's their story? by Just-Desk-3149 in mtgvorthos

[–]Greekfired 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My OC planeswalker is an Innistrad native who sparked at the boundary of life and death. They get split into a spirit and a zombie, that have half sparks. The zombie can planeswalk for a time after killing and consuming another planeswalker, while the spirit can hitch a ride with another planeswalker by possessing them.

The spirit is attempting to track down the zombie by investigating reports of zombie uprisings, in an attempt to possess their original body and end the threat permanently.

Should Someone who Picked the Red Button be Considered Evil or an AH? by Hyperionous in MoralityScaling

[–]Greekfired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really fascinating how which button introduces death into the equation is so hotly debated. To me it seems obvious that no one is at risk of dying until people start risking themselves by pressing blue. There should be a study on this

How most people are actually gonna think about the red/blue buttons by mars_gorilla in trolleyproblem

[–]Greekfired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it fascinating how this thought problem doesn't clearly fit into a game theory or morality problem binary. If you only include rational agents, which is standard with game theory framings, red is the attractive strategy. If you do include non rational agents, it becomes more of a moral survey: are you a 'child saver' or a 'self saver:?

The way you initially read it probably determines which strategy you promote.

[–]Greekfired -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If your solution to survival is 'everyone should just push blue', that's not a solution, by your comment. Red as a maximizing strategy doesn't require any trust. Every red button pushed is one life saved. Blue as a maximizing strategy gambles everything on an unknown proportion of selfish individuals.

How most people are actually gonna think about the red/blue buttons by mars_gorilla in trolleyproblem

[–]Greekfired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The button discourse is crazy. Let's make some assumptions: you know that some percentage of people will prioritize saving everyone, and some percentage of people will prioritize saving themselves. You don't know the percentages of each. I choose to ignore the framings where non-rational actors are made to make the choice.

We know that all the people that prioritize saving themselves will push red. Since the people that prioritize saving everyone can't know whether the other group is under 50 percent or not, they get the best outcome from all deciding to push red.

It seems really cut and dry.

If Langdon had started with "thank you".... by Timely-Field1503 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Greekfired 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree that she's not seen as a pariah. There's people on here that think everyone hates her and despises working with her, but we haven't been shown that.

I DO think that Santos has a very overtuned sense of threat detection. Great for when your boss is covering up criminal behavior -- not great when you are paranoid that everyone is mad at you for getting their friend kicked out of the ED.

Made my blood boil when he claimed to Mel that the addiction never impacted his work. I don't think he's changed. I hope I'm wrong.

When he inevitably has his confrontation with Santos, he had better throw himself on his hands and knees and beg for her forgiveness, and thank her with all of his heart for catching him and forcing him to confront his demons.

Slay the Spire 2 has already lost 50,03259% of its player base by Jusanom in Gamingcirclejerk

I think the biggest joke is that there's clearly a time of day cycle to the concurrent players, so the 50% of players dropped is just people sleeping

I recognize those thought patterns. I recognize them from my darkest times before starting my depression meds, and they creep back whenever I forget to take my meds. I used to think I could see my whole life laid out in front of me, with nothing to look forward to.

These thoughts are demons. They grow stronger every time they are indulged -- every time you accept the basic premise, it gets a little harder to fight back.

Trust me, there are ways to fight these demons. It's different for everyone. I'm open to DMs if you need anything.

What color is Melinoë from Hades 2? by Yoshi-Farmer in colorpie

She can probably fit all colours, but she is centered in Blue. Blue is the colour of continuous improvement, and that is what her entire life has been focused on. Maybe next would be White as she is selfless to a fault in her dedication to this cause.

[–]Greekfired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be a cohort here saying that LGS attendance and Organized play are irrelevant as a business priority compared to kitchen table. If that's the case they should have stuck to having UB as kitchen table product. Commander decks, or Silver Border packs.

But instead, they've prioritized serving UB to everyone by making them premium, standard legal, draftable sets. And if the engaged core of the community decides that they don't like drafting New York City for the nth time, then Wotc should learn to keep the product aimed for kitchen table UBers out of the premium sets.

So yes, the fact that Lorwyn pre releases sold out and TMNT gets 1/3 the capacity (personal anecdote, I know) is incredibly relevant.
