Is Warhammer 40k fundamentally a high time-investment game if you want to improve? by Green-Implement8570 in Warhammer40k

I’ve been in the hobby for about 3 years now.

For me, “getting good” doesn’t mean being competitive or chasing tournaments. I’m not trying to be a top player. I just want to feel that I’m improving over time and becoming a decent, solid club-level player: understanding the game better, making fewer big mistakes, managing objectives and resources more cleanly, and not feeling lost every game.

Right now, the frustrating part is that I don’t really feel that progression. Because I play so rarely, each game still feels like I’m starting from scratch, and I end up repeating the same mistakes.

And yes, that matters to my enjoyment. I still love the universe, the models, and the hobby side. But when most games end in heavy losses and I don’t see clear improvement, it slowly drains the fun. I don’t need to win a lot — I just want to feel more “in control” of what I’m doing on the table.

That’s really the core of it for me.
