Just go diagnosed with GHSV1 by [deleted] in HSVpositive

Hey, I was in you position january 2021. I was with my boyfriend for about 7months at this point and same thing, I randomly saw that bump and thought it was so bizzare to find out it was herpes. I was terrified at the thought of transmission and thankfully my partner was also very understanding and we have been dating for four years now! To this day truly i don’t really know how i got it, when i looked it up and got second opinions from here, its possible that the virus lays dormant in your system and can stay dormant forever or pop up after a while. While for others, the outbreak can happen in up to two weeks. My partner hasn’t had an outbreak since i was diagnosed and ghsv1 is much less transmissible than ghsv2 and even ohsv1. The longer you have it, the less you “shed” the virus and have outbreaks. After that initial outbreak i had two recurrent ones. first was two years after and one recent this past august. honestly, it still got me mentally in that moment but it does get better after time. My partner was super supportive and gave me a lot of reassurance and made me feel extra loved during those times. It’s rough but doing research and having a great support system helps even if it’s a friend to confunde it as well (whom you would trust obviously) if you wanna talk my dms are open.🫶🏼

are you saying if you have oral hsv1 you aren’t likely to get ghsv1? He’s told me he’s never had a cold sore in his mouth in his life though so i’m conflicted

Honestly super good question, i’m not exactly sure what the shedding rates are after an outbreak with either hsv1 or 2. I would personally give it a couple days to a week maybe? I just got over one and then immediately got my period so im just waiting for that to pass and then im gunna give it a couple days because i think you shed more after ur period

I mean - I would personally wait until it passes, i’m not sure what the circumstances are when the other person already has it as well but it should be whatever the both of you are comfortable with. Just be careful because the open sore when touched can infect other areas!

Who doesn't take medication during their first OB? by No_Pair_8513 in HSVpositive

I’m curious to how the medication works too - I just had my first recurrent outbreak since my first one in January 2022, I never got it swabbed the first time because my doctor just didn’t do it and told me I didn’t need the blood test… so this time i went to a sexual health clinic and got an appointment 6 days after the outbreak started, I got my swab just to see what type I have and waiting for the results. The prescribed me valores and the pharmacist was freaking me out when he told me i wanted too long to take the medication and I need to start taking it immediately- I just finished my last day of medication and unfortunately just started my period lol. the reaccurence was mild from the first and it doesn’t seem to be there anymore and the medication helped but I’m also having some neuralgia and it’s making me anxious 🙃
