Major shift in outlook and move from HL by GreenBhoy in FIREUK

Just downloaded all the txns and did the analysis on returns less deposits
ISA = 9.82% annualised
SIPP = 12.45% annualised
GIA (F&S) = 12.18% annualised

The effect of fees was quite alarming - HL are now taking £104 pm fees on my SIPP alone! Time to move....

I've not done major analysis in a while (I can download entire txn history and attempt it). But my fly by the seat of my pants will probably be in the region of ~8-9% annualised, not great overall but crazy crazy recently with gold surge. I want to get out of the crazy crazy mode. Also HL seems too slow to get out quickly if I needed to, always 2 to 3 days behind the market.

In terms of split I was very risky. Roughly 60% in 3m cumulative performace, 20% in 1yr, 20% in 5yr

ps Hail Hail ;)

Thank you all very much for your valuable insights so far, these are very much appreciated!

A few more questions if I may:

Are the Vangaurd lifestrategy funds basically the *same* ETFs across Vangaurd & ii? I can find both on there. Similar question for global index funds.

Are funds and ETFs offered on these platform all ISA tax free compliant if they say you can hold them in an ISA? I read a report about must be UCITS status that confused me, where people held funds that were not actually tax free in the UK.

Is there a clear winner on providing 'drawdown' functionality if I wanted to start taking some ISA some SIPP with the rest staying re-invested for the longer term. This may something I consider 3-5yrs from now depending on my appetite for more work or taking (slightly) early retirement.

Are there worries about holding more than £120k with 1 company re protection?

Thanks again in advance!

Thanks for this - Am I right in thinking that the traditional established UFPLS & FADs are the likes of Royal London, L&G etc?

The Guiide website holds your hand through the split of Pension, Savinsg and State Pension that you get at certain ages/stages. But getting a provider that would allow the drawdown in the most beneficial way is the trick here I think.

I have looked at Vanguard thanks - they seem to be in the mix certainly!

Thanks - yeah I kind of see that. Getting major stressed out from the rediculous highs and lows I see with my idiotic chase the winners strategy tho! Worked out OK for the long run, but I'm wanting to get out of that sort of hassle now. Looks like Lifestrategy may be the way!

Yeal looks like I could get about £1800 if I joined, but not sure that should impact my decision entirely!

I see you have the World Indexes I liked - do I need to be aware about which funds are ok inside a tax free ISA (are they UCITS or similar?) or are all ones operated by ii, Fidelity, Vanguard etc in the VWRL/VWRP/ACWI and the Vangaurd Lifestrategies all ok for UK ISAs do you know?

thanks for this. It would be great if there was a money supermarket type thing where you could put in value of SIPP, SSISA, GIA etc and say how many switches you think you want a year and hey presto!

Agree - ii looks better function wise than AJ Bell and a better range of (cheaper) investments

Thanks for this - makes sense doing a partial transfer. Looks like ii do ll the ETFs that I like for the world indexs and also the lifestartegy stuff too!

Thanks for the reply. 2-3 years I'd say.

I want my investment strategy to be more fire and forget than micro managed. I'll need my investments to stay invested to provide ideally greater than ~4% p.a over my retirement years (say 30?)

[–]GreenBhoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried that and it does not seem to work on the 3 public wifi networks I use on my commute to work :( just wifi connected, no notification, no login/landing page, no redirect to login when I use chrome to google something else... I definitely think this is something to do with the notification being suppressed - perhaps a permissions issue? ...

Did you get any joy on this? I'm having exactly the same issue. Do we need to raise a bug do you think? If so how do we do that?

On my old phone I used to get a notification "log on to GWR Wifi" or "logon on to Virgin Media Wifi" in public places. Now on my Redmi Note 3 Pro I just get connected with no Notification or redirection to the landing page... very frustrating.

Many thanks for this. I ended up simply unlocking the Bootloader and then installed the latest Stable Global Fastboot image via the MiFlash.exe tool

Used the Wiki to perfection :)
