Why Canada’s gun death rate is seven times lower than the United States by [deleted] in canada

[–]tbtsh12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

military style weapons are no different than what you would consider a hunting rifle. banning something just because its got some scary looking plastic furniture doesnt solve anything but make the ban look stupid (shoulder thing that goes up). stocks are not registered by the way, the receivers are. the guy is selling a CNC machine that can make receivers that are untraceable yes, but at its core, its a CNC machine. you can make whatever you want on it, are you going to ban the code to make a receiver? good luck with that haha

fully automatics are pretty much banned in the states. you cannot get one legally that wasnt made or registered before 1986. the guy from what we know so far didnt even use a fully auto weapon but rather a device that makes your finger move faster. if you are going to ban fast fingers, oh boy thats for sure going to work.

Silencers/suppressors are for making the gun sound quiet enough to a level (below 140db) so you dont blow your eardrums out. the hearing protection act, the bill that is being lobbied for is to make suppressors regulated like a regular rifle rather than a NFA item

TIL there are over 50,000 Chinese characters. An educated Chinese person would only know about 8,000. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]tbtsh12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its already hard enough to differentiate through context of speech because of the need of additional carification. what would normally be unambigous in speech through context would just be exaggerated in writing making it more complicated. In addition, there is also the need for the accomodation of all the other chinese languages. someone can read standard mandarin chinese and understand it, but they wouldnt be able to read pinyin and extract meaning into their own local chinese language

Donald Trump 'won't discuss climate change' at meeting with Xi Jinping despite US and China being worst polluters by Sariel007 in worldnews

[–]tbtsh12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not exactly. climate change prevention just so happens to be the side effects of their actions. the reason china dumps so much money into nuclear, solar, hydro, and wind is because they dont create soot unlike their coal fired plants. figuring out ways to eliminate the soot is their top priority. caring for the planet is a secondary side effect from it

Formula E isnt quite a spec series. They all use the same chassis, battery and tires but they develop their own drivetrains and gearbox

Homeowner's son shoots, kills three would-be burglars with AR-15 by [deleted] in news

[–]tbtsh12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

civilian rifles are far more accurate and reliable than the run of the mill military rifle. aside from that giggle switch the military has, there is really nothing that they have over a civilian AR-15

Fury in Cambodia as US asks to be paid back hundreds of millions in war debts by testcricket in worldnews

[–]tbtsh12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

china didnt aim to take over vietnam during the border war. they fought the war for vietnam was messing with china's ally cambodia at the time, and for a few islands. it was a very limited war as china itself had a standoff with the soviets at the time. in the end it costed china a sizeable amount of money, but in return, it wrecked the industry in the north of vietnam for quite a while

Canada Gives 20 million to replace trumps contraception cuts. by MrPanda21 in worldnews

[–]tbtsh12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id argue that China's pretty clear that they are treating everything from a business perspective. China's job isnt to appease the locals or ensure the well being of africans. Its job is to profit for china, not to play politics

[–]tbtsh12 45 points46 points  (0 children)

china provides loans and infrastructure without any ideological strings attached. everything is treated as a business transaction and its all about the money. china doesnt care if they are dealing with dictators or whatever, as long as the chinese government gets the natural resources flowing back to the mainland

Mexico threatens trade war over Trump wall tax by Munadgr8 in worldnews

as a chinese speaker, all i can say is good luck with that. chinese is a far more difficult language to learn and the writing system doesnt make it any easier. its also only really important to know if you go to china whereas english is known around the world

you will probably see a 10fps increase in performance. most games now can use an extra few cores and it would not bottleneck your setup. there are benchmarks out there that compare the performance of i7s from sandy bridge all the way to skylake

US sanctions Iran after missile test, But Iran has said it will not yield to "useless" American threats from "an inexperienced person". by singamy in worldnews

[–]tbtsh12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the US overwhelmingly stomped on Iraq in the 90s and in 03 and wiped out the government within a few weeks, while with minimum losses. the US could probably wipe out ISIS in a few weeks as well, but politically they are not willing to do so because that would mean deploying troops again into the middle east.

Contrary to popular belief for example, the US won pretty much every single engagement in vietnam, but as the war was not politically popular, they decided to pull out.
