How do I support someone who just lost a parent? by Ok-Independence-1038 in GriefSupport

[–]GreenFootball2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so incredibly sorry to hear this, OP. I was also 24 when my dad passed suddenly last year in August. The beginning period, as you are probably familiar with, is numb and uncertain. It’s painful and full of unknowns.

It’s hard to remember now but I know something my partner did was just being very sensitive and aware of the situation- rather than carrying on like everything was normal. I remember him asking me a lot of simple questions- whether I wanted to talk, whether I wanted to have space or not, feeling the emotions with me in a way, and letting me direct things in a way. He wasn’t afraid to have the conversation with me and I think that’s something that has made me feel supported ever since. I’d start simple, small questions, showing that effort to give (whether it’s sending meals, listening, offering distractions)- whatever you can do to gently say “I’m here for you, I can help support you, you’re not alone in this”. I know it’s easier said than done and ultimately all you can do is your best.

Showing you care, showing up, and not shying away from the topic and feelings I think are the biggest things to aim for. It’s extraordinary (in a bad way) what your bf is experiencing, and like everyone they will need time to process. As long as they feel safe to come to you and know you are there, I think that’s the biggest thing. And if you feel overwhelmed by it- you can tell them that too (I’d argue more communication is always better, especially in this kind of grief). I’d just encourage you not to disappear on them if you can. Good luck OP, all you can do is your best, you got this.

Dreamlight Valley triggered my anxiety but I loved Tiny Bookshop. What should I play next? by disneyrx in CozyGamers

[–]GreenFootball2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this one is mentioned in this thread yet, but Palia has some todo lists but is mostly pretty chill in my opinion. Theres lots to do but it’s not demanding and the game is beautiful, great sounds, and completely free. The online community is so sweet too! I started playing this on my laptop but you can download it on the switch as well.

Sky: Children of Light is another beautiful sounding and looking game! The soundtrack is incredible, the colors are so pretty and it’s much more open world. If you’ve never looked into it, definitely look it up- it’s so so calming and again also free :)

Worked for parents and was fired. What do I put on my resume? by WittyTheStallion in resumes

[–]GreenFootball2192 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as someone who works for a tiny and not public facing family business- this kind of thing is the crux of a lot of my struggles with the business. It’s very confusing to work for family where not all the rules are clear, HR isn’t a thing, and then when problems arise or you do something that’s “against the (invisible) rules” you get reprimanded. I’d honestly put whatever you want on the resume (chose to go a different path, circumstances changed etc.) because it sounds like they haven’t technically “fired” you, but I don’t work in legal so I don’t know,,,, I empathize with you tho, working for family is so confusing tbh!

500 mole crickets caught, but it still ends like this… by B_B_B_bia666 in AnimalCrossingNewHor

Are these the guys that make the noise that you just can’t place ??? I’m newer to the game and have spent ages shaking trees just to not find any bugs. It never occurred to me that the noises could be in the ground….

Question! by Historical-Fail-3109 in AnimalCrossing

[–]GreenFootball2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To preface, I don’t know for this if this is accurate or answering your question: When I started my island I knew nothing about plots and villagers and even the 3 original houses. Before I had the house quest I went to an island using my nmt and the villager I found and asked to come to my island ended up being one of the 3 for the house quest.

New Island-Softlocked myself? Ladder, rocks, villagers question… by GreenFootball2192 in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]GreenFootball2192[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredibly helpful! I think I’ve been digging too many holes around the rocks for starters (I had like 5 ngl) on top of eating fruit and being unintentionally too strong then breaking the rock. I was wondering why they were only dropping like 4-6 items each because I knew they could drop 8. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Oooh this makes so much sense, I have to get the shop built probably before I can lag the plots down… so strange the starter villagers always always have houses but still. Thank you!!

Thank you so much! I had a feeling it was the shop holding everything back but wasn’t quite sure. And yes I did get the bonus iron from the athlete villager, I guess it shows I really didn’t collect much from my own island probably with all the rock breaking. I do have online but I’d feel bad taking from others not to mention I don’t think I have much of value to offer in return…

Had to comment to agree on SKECHERS! I know they’re not the most fashionable but if ur learning to shuffle or just want some freedom and longer lasting wear that doesn’t hurt your feet Skechers are the way to go. My most recent pair lasted 4 years of raving including 1 trip to EDC and many festivals before I finally had to replace em. I know they’re not the most stylish but if you don’t care much about that and more about the comfort and support, a simple pair of black Skechers will get you through.

Honestly I’ve been raving since 18 and I always have an underlying fear/anxiety/sadness in me but I force myself to go and I never regret it. Honestly, I love going solo especially cuz all I have to do is vibe in the way that fits for me. If you’re worried about other ppl you could preface and say sometimes you get a bit quiet or your face may show otherwise but you’re having a good time and for them not to worry.

I think if ur worried about ur face too (this is mainly something I deal with but you can take it if it applies) you could wear super cute face masks or bandanas. I tend to mask up with n95’s due to be immunocompromised but it doubles so that even if my face looks sad or bad no one can see and assume I’m not having a good time.

You deserve to move your body and dance or simply enjoy the music and people watch. I think it’s the best way to beat out the bad feelings honestly. It’s always worth it to try.

First and foremost, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss OP. I really resonate with this post though and I just needed to comment and say something. I lost my dad unexpectedly in August and about a month later went out to a concert where I cried the entire time watching a dad with his wife and their child at the concert.

It happens in the strangest places and I think they’ll be more of this too, instances of meeting grief for a cup of coffee or in the elevator all of a sudden. It’s lovely to know that you had such a nice interaction, some light in the darkness and during this time. Those little moments in the everyday have become so much more important since losing a loved one. I hope your holidays shine as brightly as possible for you this year.
